The Energy and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives across the Lansing School District. This role will focus on reducing the district's environmental impact through energy conservation, recycling programs, and sustainability projects. The specialist will work collaboratively with staff, students, and the community to foster a culture of sustainability.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Energy Management, or a related field preferred.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in energy management, sustainability, or a related field preferred.Strong knowledge of energy conservation techniques, sustainability practices, and recycling programs.Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and reporting.Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences.Proficiency in using software and tools related to energy management and sustainability tracking.Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Energy Management (CEM), LEED accreditation, or other relevant certifications.Experience working in an educational environment.Responsibilities - Energy Efficiency
Conduct energy audits of district facilities to identify areas for improvement.Develop and implement energy-saving strategies and initiatives.Monitor and analyze energy usage data to track progress and identify trends.Collaborate with maintenance staff to optimize HVAC, lighting, and other systems for energy efficiency.Responsibilities - Sustainability Projects
Plan and manage sustainability projects such as green building initiatives, renewable energy installations, and waste reduction programs.Coordinate with architects, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects align with sustainability goals.Responsibilities - Recycling and Waste Management
Develop and oversee recycling programs across all district facilities.Educate staff and students on proper recycling practices and the importance of waste reduction.Monitor recycling efforts and provide regular reports on program effectiveness.Responsibilities - Education and Outreach
Create educational materials and programs to promote sustainability awareness among students and staff.Organize events, workshops, and campaigns to engage the school community in sustainability efforts.Serve as a liaison to external organizations and agencies on sustainability issues.Responsibilities - Policy Development
Develop and recommend policies related to energy use, recycling, and sustainability.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding environmental practices.Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in sustainability and energy management.Responsibilities - Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate records of energy use, recycling metrics, and sustainability project outcomes.Prepare and present reports to the Chief Operating Officer, administration, and other stakeholders.Develop annual sustainability reports highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
