General Purpose:
Layout, fabricate, assembles, installs and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems.
Work Schedule:
Days and hours vary depending on the assigned project.
Responsibilities & DutiesPromote and comply with all Company and safety policies and proceduresSelect type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specificationsInspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to determine that holes will not cause structural weaknessPlan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workerCut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machineThread pipe using threading machineBend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machineAssemble and install a variety of metals and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including; brass, copper, lead, fiberglass, steel, plastic, etc.Join pipe by means of thread, caulking, welding, solder, braze, fuse or cemented jointsUse hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangersInstall and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including; compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and pipingTest piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaksWeld holding fixtures to structural steel membersMaintain a professional appearanceOther duties as assigned by Foreman or SuperintendentRequired Education
High school diploma or equivalent GED.Required Experience
Minimum of 6 months experience, one year certificate from a technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experienceRequired Skills/Licenses/Certifications
Valid driver's license to operate motor vehicles.Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manualsAdd and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, ability to perform these operations using unit weight measurements and volumes.Ability to calculate rate, ratios and percentagesApply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral formWorkers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standardsSupervisory Responsibility
