Our goals are to prevent and relieve suffering, improve the patient’s quality of life, provide the best care possible to patients and their families while facing a serious illness, and ensure that the patient and family understand their illness and options, so that a truly informed decision can be made about the direction a patient’s care should take.Palliative care can be used when a patient is receiving treatment for a disease, as well as during the time when there are no longer curative treatment options. It is incredibly important to us that our team members understand the nature of our work and strive to provide the compassion and support our patients need. In addition to physical symptoms, we care for the patient as a whole person, and explore emotional, social, and spiritual needs as we understand how these factors can significantly impact a patient and family facing serious illness.The OpportunityWe are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Practice Specialist to support Palliative Care (both Outpatient and Inpatient) onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. This is not a patient-facing front desk role - communication with patients will be predominantly over the phone from our Ellison building. As the only Practice Specialist for the specialty, this role is a unique opportunity to work autonomously as the epicenter of the department while also collaborating with various members of the multidisciplinary team.Responsibilities will include:Assisting the Practice Manager in ensuring the smooth and efficient overall day to day operationsManaging the Chief of Palliative Care’s calendarFielding all incoming telephone calls and triaging appropriatelyMonitoring patient flow and waiting room activityScheduling all appointmentsProviding internal administrative support to the department (practice leadership, clinicians, and peers)Running clinical reportsOther tasks and special projects as assignedQualificationsThe ideal candidate profile is an organized self-starter who is proactive, agile, and capable of multitasking and prioritizing. High school graduate or equivalent required, college degree preferred.3-5 years of experience in lead/supervisory role in a healthcare setting preferredPatient registration and/or scheduling experience a plus.
