Full-time (37.5 hours/week), Monday through Friday. This is a second shift position and the work hour options are 1 pm – 9pm or 2 pm – 10 pm or 3 pm – 11 pm.COMPENSATION:

Nonexempt position; the hourly range is $23 to $25 per hour based on experience. Sojourner House is a comprehensive victim services agency that provides crisis intervention services, shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, clinical counseling, immigration advocacy, community-based programs, education prevention programming, a growing housing development program, and other supportive services to individuals and families impacted by abuse. We have offices in Providence and Woonsocket; and programs that operate statewide. Our goal is to help our clients rebuild their lives, piece by piece, through a variety of services. All of our programs work from the premise that violence is an unacceptable means of solving interpersonal conflict, and we encourage only non-violent methods of working out conflicts. Working with the Sr. Director of Emergency Programs . You will provide direct services to clients and programming to Sojourner House’s properties and shelter programs. The Program Advocate provides support across multiple locations and will travel between locations regularly during the work week and work day.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide individual case management services to residential clients and their children. This includes weekly 1:1 meetings and regular phone check-ins. Develop action plans with clients that outline goals related to education, employment, child care and permanent housing. Assist clients in obtaining appropriate substance abuse, mental health, and/or medical services as needed.Answer Sojourner House 24/7 state-wide Hotline conduct intakes, and provide referrals and emotional support as needed.Promptly respond to emergency calls at any of Sojourner House’s properties as requested by on call managerAbility to maintain high level of confidentialityProvide all residents of Sojourner House programs with the support and assistance they need, including: emotional support, psycho-educational on domestic violence, basic needs, resources and information .Support residential clients to secure basic needs: food, clothing, safety, transportation, education, etc.Monitor and implement policies, and ensure that participants follow these rules and procedures by creating an environment of trust and community.Complete data entry and submit necessary reports as required for grant compliance.Supervise volunteers as they perform tasks on-site.Assist in the maintenance of facilities as needed by reporting any issues to the Maintenance Technician.Work with the Operations Coordinator and other program staff to coordinate the collection and use of donated items.Support Sojourner House’s philosophy of client empowerment and respect for individual choices.Collaborate with Sojourner House program managers to problem solve issues that may occurPerform other duties as requested by the Sr. Director of Emergency Programs and Sojourner House management.EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL SKILLS:A minimum of two to three years experience in human or social servicesFamiliarity with domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking victim services.Must be organized and demonstrate superior leadership skillsFluency in Spanish (written and oral) is strongly desiredComputer literacy (Word, Excel, and general Internet skills)Familiarity working with individuals from different cultures and backgroundsA demonstrated familiarity with LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and/or substance abuse populationsComfortable working independentlyInnovative thinking to approaching issues of poverty, domestic violence, and service deliveryFamiliarity with social services in Rhode IslandMaintain a safe and healthy environment for all Sojourner House propertiesWORKING CONDITIONS:This is not a remote or hybrid position; the nature of this position will require the Program Advocate to be on-site at a Sojourner House locationAbility to work second shift Monday through Friday. Options for the regular work hours are 1 pm – 9 pm, 2 pm – 10 pm, 3 pm – 11pmReliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required; traveling is required during the work shift (with mileage reimbursementA criminal record check is requiredThis is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), non-exempt positionPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
