Job Duties
Position provides psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill inmates. Functions as a mental health provider to the inmates by performing initial and ongoing psychiatric assessments; Prescribes appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates to improve behaviors; Assists with preparation and modification of treatment plans and recommend and assign to appropriate programs; Provides supervision to psychiatric providers at the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited medical school. Completion of an approved psychiatric residency program
Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia; M.D./D.O
Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat mentally ill inmates
Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population
Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team
Strong communication skills - orally and in writing/e-mail
Additional Considerations
Specialty in Forensic or Addiction care
Board Certification
Experience providing mental health care in a correctional setting
