Description
This position is for a construction civil estimator. The civil estimator is responsible for estimating work required for development projects by gathering proposals, plans, specifications, and related documents. This position will work to create conceptual estimates and budgets at development conception, then continue to manage the bidding process with subcontractors while updating budgets as the design progresses.
Responsibilities
•Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects.•Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive estimates.•Collaborate with development managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate and competitive bids.•Conduct site visits and assessments to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.•Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.•Identify potential risks and opportunities in project bids and develop strategies to address them.•Prepare and present detailed bid proposals to the development manager and stakeholders.•Maintain and update estimating databases and tools.•Stay current with industry trends, costs, and best practices to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.•Review and understand proposals, estimates, plans, specifications, permits, and related contract documents; analyze labor, material, equipment, and time requirements.•Quickly and with precision perform quantity takeoffs, develop subcontractor work parameters, and review pricing.•Draft accurate and well-organized cost estimates for the entire scope of work according to standards and specifications.•Communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors on a daily basis and collaborate with engineers, municipalities, and project representatives.•Maintain continual communication with the suppliers and subcontractors.•Create project schedules.•Organize subcontractor's quotations, and negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents.•Meet with potential clients and professionals as required to discuss options for proposed services.•Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costing.•Develop original budgets and maintain cost to date and forecasts for monthly report-outs.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:•Proven experience as a Civil Construction Estimator in the construction industry.•In-depth knowledge of civil construction processes, materials, and cost estimation techniques.•Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.•Strong analytical and mathematical skills.•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.•Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.•Strong attention to detail and accuracy.•Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.•Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.•Ability to travel, work extended hours and some weekends
