Position SummaryAn IT Database Support Paraprofessional, under general supervision, is responsible for data entry, maintaining, testing, and implementing the database and affiliated programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the database, testing programs, correcting, managing data flow, and coordinating changes. Responsibilities may also include integrating different products together and planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard the database. An IT Database Support Paraprofessional typically reports to an IT Database Support Professional or an IT Manager and may supervise nonexempt IT Database Support staff.

This employee plays a vital role in handling data submitted to and created by the Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories.

The primary functions include data entry, creating and emailing reports, logging in samples, filing, and communicating with County Extension Offices.

This incumbent reports to the Director, works closely with IT Staff, interacts daily with Sample Receiving, Technicians, and Accounting, and communicates daily with County Extension personnel by phone or email.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Proficiency in Outlook or similar email client.

Familiarity with database concepts.

Comfortable working with web-based applications.

High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities, while working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Communicate effectively in person and by telephone with a variety of individuals.

Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Work independently and take direction and instruction from several individuals.

Organized and self-motivated.

Maintain data flow routines between systems to ensure accuracy and decrease time allocated toward data entry.

Maintain/Recommend methods for integrating different products so they work properly together such as customizing the database to meet specific needs.

Maintain database to ensure the appropriate support level is upheld through upgrades or migration.

Modify existing database and management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.

Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.

Test programs that relay information to and from the database, correct errors, and make necessary modifications.

Work as part of a team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.

Data entry of Client contact information and analytical request into database.

Communicate with County Extension offices with sample submission issues, missing submission forms, status requests or payment issues.

Assist with monitoring AESL departmental email, responds and resolves inquiries, forwards emails to proper party, follow up to ensure action items have been completed.

Creates and emails completed analytical reports for clients/county extension offices.

Scan submission forms, enters data and creates login sheets for soil sets.

Logging in samples by assigning lab numbers upon arrival.

Assist users and answer questions.
