This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Employee must report to the office at least 3 days per week.

The

Sr. J2EE Application Developer

is responsible for designing/configuring the functionality for Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE or J2EE) applications, including web and mobile applications that are used by WSSC Water to support the organization's day to day operations. Specific duties include developing and maintaining applications, working closely with the database and networking teams, systems analysis, developing and modifying highly complex programming procedures, testing, debugging, verification, documentation, systems installation, and the solution of mathematical, engineering, scientific, or business problems for a water utility.

Essential FunctionsDevelops and maintains J2EE applicationsMigrates Legacy applications to J2EE platformDevelops web client interfacesProvides operational support for existing J2EE and non J2EE applicationsAnalyzes, designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains applications and application enhancementsDevelops and adheres to standard SDLC methodologies to produce project results that are measurable and delivered on time and within budgetDevelops and adheres to team project standards for development including tools, platforms, methodology, and controls to ensure efficiency, quality, and consistencyPrepares detailed software specifications and test plansPerforms quality assurance reviewsProvides program and system level time/cost estimatesEvaluates and modifies various COTS products, i.e., Moodle and Remedy to obtain optimal configuration for WSSC Water environmentProvides technical documentation updated to the latest enhancement or releaseAssists in reviewing current technical architecture, including design patterns and development methodologiesOther Functions

Assists with defining and meeting business requirementsServes as project leader for small initiativesWorks with various business sections and IT sections for their configuration/development needsGuides less experienced programmersWorks with legacy systems and other system migrationsEffectively reports on application developmentPerforms other duties as requiredWork Environment And Physical Demands

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Excellent web design skillsStrong communication skills with ability to document and troubleshoot problems and communicate with business and technical personnel at all levelsStrong analytical and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple concurrent tasksAbility to handle various COTS products configuration and administrationKnowledge of Java Persistence API or ORM (Hibernate)Knowledge of an application server such as WebSphere, WebLogic, JBOSS, or TomcatKnowledge of Spring FrameworkKnowledge of an integrated development environment (IDE) such as Rational Application Developer, Eclipse, or IntelliJ, or othersKnowledge of Java Server Faces (JSF)Knowledge of HTML5Knowledge of Bootstrap or CSSKnowledge of Node.js, Angular, or ReactMinimum Education, Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree and 6+ years' experience in application and web systems development using the following:

Java EE or J2EESQL database server (such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PL/SQL)Web Client development

2+ years of development experience with SOAP or REST frameworksOR

High School diploma (or equivalent) and 10+ years' experience in application and web systems development using the following:

Java EE or J2EEA SQL database server (such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PL/SQL)Web Client development

2+ years of development experience with SOAP or REST frameworksAdditional Requirements

Must be available, if required, on a 24-hour on-call basis and work at odd and irregular hours

Preferences

Experience using Apache TomcatCertification in Java or J2EE or mobile application developmentApplication development experience for mobile technology (either Android or iOS)Application development experience with React, Angular or PythonExperience with e-commerce applicationsExperience with applications supporting water utility and plant operations

Salary$102,866 - $174,873
