JOB SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director or their designee, the Sports and Recreation Coordinator will assist in the daily operations and maintenance of the City of Alton's Parks and Recreation. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing sports and recreational programs for youth, adults, and seniors. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills and a passion for promoting community engagement through sports initiatives. Responsibilities include collaborating with local schools and organizations, overseeing budgeting, coordinating events, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement, and manage diverse sports and recreation programs and activities tailored for youth, adults, and seniors.Plan and coordinate special events and tournaments, ensuring that all logistical aspects, equipment, and staffing needs are addressed.Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and community groups to enhance and promote sports and recreation initiatives.Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers, providing ongoing guidance and support to ensure effective program delivery.Monitor program budgets, maintain accurate records, and prepare comprehensive reports on program outcomes and participation levels.Ensure compliance with safety regulations, facility usage policies, and emergency procedures.Promote programs through marketing strategies, including social media campaigns, flyers, and community outreach initiatives.Evaluate program effectiveness and participant satisfaction, making enhancements based on feedback and outcomes.Engage with community members to foster ongoing relationships that encourage participation in recreational activities.Attend meetings, workshops, and or conferences to stay updated on trends and best practices in sports and recreation.Assist the Parks and Recreation Director and Deputy Director as needed and perform other related duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports directly to the Director/Deputy of Parks & Recreation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Physical Education, or a related field preferred, or at least 4 years of experience in sports program management or recreation coordination.Must possess a valid driver's licenseExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public.Knowledge of recreational programming, community engagement strategies, and facility management principles.Proficiency in using software for scheduling, budgeting, and reporting purposes.Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED preferred (or a willingness to obtain).Must be able to work evenings and weekends when sports leagues and other events are scheduled and be on-call to respond to emergencies during recreational league games.Must be BASSETT trained or obtain training within one year of probation.Must be food handler manager trained or must complete training within one year of probation.Must be Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) trained or complete training within one year of probation.Demonstrated PC skills required, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.Must have the ability to work in extreme weather conditions.Must reside within the limits of the Alton Community Unit School District 11 within 90 days after successfully completing the 1-year probation period.
