I.a. P

urpose:This position is responsible for the Ink Blending operations to properly blend inks in order to meet customer and/or Bemis specifications for viscosity, color, strength, amount and coverage to meet job requirements. Provides guidance & recommendations to operators for all inks produced or controlled in the ink operations.I.b.

Scope:This is a third level Ink Technician role. It requires very limited supervision and performs duties that are more complex in nature. May provide guidance to the lower level Ink Technicians.II. DutiesActs as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Follow all plant-wide, department-wide environmental and safety rules. Responsible for getting jobs up and running in a timely manner (taking into consideration all aspects of achieving color including following a logical step by step process, i.e.; checking to see if run condition was followed, lay down/print quality of ink, viscosity, possibility of contamination, etc.). Responsible for the ink dispensing system (i.e. software upgrades, internal system changes, SAP, entering and tagging all containers with container ID numbers, maintenance and calibrations) Troubleshoots dispenser issues with the ink dispensing system. Interacts daily with department Supervisors / Managers regarding ink quality issues and improvement initiatives. Perform lab mixes (color matching) and providing printed swatches for all new colors. Preform lab testing for different printing applications as needed by customer. Perform the maintenance of ink formulations in the ink dispensing system to ensure all formulas are available and revisions are captured. Assigns color folder numbers and works with the graphic department to make sure the jobs flow thru the plant smoothly. Identifies the inks to be reworked that are not suggested by the ink dispensing system software. Helps with reducing and managing the inventory. Assist with the ordering of inks, solvents, adhesives and other supplies. Maintains and watched for jobs needing to be added to the "watch list" and provides comments on how the job ran with regards to color match and dirty print. Acts as a liaison with ink suppliers and manage ink mileage studies. Assists with the resolution of quality / supply / material testing activities with appropriate procurement and manufacturing resources. Attends and participates in department meetings as needed. Assists with customer approvals. Assist Ink Room Supervisor on daily tasks as needed.III. Knowledge1.RequirementsMust be able to read, understand and interpret job ordersMust have the ability to perceive or recognize minute similarities or differences in colors, hues and shades of the same color. Must be able to match colors accurately.Mechanical aptitude preferred to make minor adjustments and/or repairs to ink room equipment.Must have basic math and reasoning skills.Must have basic computer skills.Must be able to make limited decisions in fulfilling job requirements.Prefer prior printing background.Must have working knowledge of:a. tape measure d. inks and printing materialsb. spectrophotometer e. basic hand toolsc. diagnostic equipment f. linear measurement2.SourcesAssociate's degree in a technical area or equivalent experienceFive or more years of ink related experienceContinuing education in the printing/ink fieldIV. ResponsibilityThis position has responsibility for providing quality ink blend matches to the manufacturing floor.VI. Essential Physical Requirements1. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing to fulfill job orders in a safe and efficient manner.2. Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs. Moving objects that weigh more than this may require using correct equipment and/or accessories.4. Must be able to work flexible and/or extended hours to fulfill needs of the job.5. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.6.
