Job Vacancy Announcement Campus Maintenance SpecialistPOSITION TITLE: Campus Maintenance SpecialistJVA#: 2024-20DEPARTMENT: MaintenancePOSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice President of Capital Projects, the Campus Maintenance Specialist-MEC (MEC=Medical Education Center) performs a wide variety of maintenance functions (preventative as well as repairs) for the Bluefield State University Medical Education Center physical structures and campus grounds, including HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, basic boiler operations, other maintenance functions, trash removal, and grounds upkeep.POSITION CLASSIFICATION/COMPENSATION: This position is Nonclassified, Full-time, carries a Non-Exempt status under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and serves at the will and pleasure of the President. Actual compensation will be commensurate with specific qualifications and experience related to the position. Position is dependent upon available state and/or grant funding.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform day-to-day maintenance functions (preventative, repairs, and inspections) for the Bluefield State University physical structures and campus grounds, including HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, basic boiler operations, other maintenance functions, trash removal, and grounds upkeep. Includes but is not limited to all buildings, recreational facilities, equipment, parking lots, landscaping, vehicles, and other institutional property. • Assess building maintenance needs and plan work assignments and project schedules with inappropriate priority. • Develop maintenance procedures and perform scheduled work adhering to appropriate work standards, and safety protocols, and completing work assignments on time and within budget. • Assist with departmental budget estimates and the cost of each repair project. • Utilize tools, materials, and equipment related to the assigned area of responsibility. • Evaluate equipment and supplies to ensure proper working order and maximize effective and efficient maintenance operations. • Provide oral and written reports as required. • Interact with BSU students, staff, and the public as necessary to provide information, and explain activities, policy, practice, etc. regarding maintenance operations/projects. • May coordinate the work of seasonal and apprentice employees, and may collaborate with Main Campus physical plant supervisors and staff as needed. • Actively support an inclusive and respectful work environment. • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree, or vocational or technical school degree, and at least three years of facilities maintenance-related experience. OR, High School Diploma or GED; and at least five years of facilities maintenance-related experience required.
