Position Overview

The Director of Medical Affairs will develop and lead our team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) specializing in Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) products within the hematology/oncology therapeutic area. This senior leadership role involves developing and implementing strategies to provide medical and scientific information to various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, researchers, and internal teams. The Director of Medical Affairs will play a critical role in advancing the Medexus BMT product by leveraging their expertise in oncology and BMT to ensure optimal utilization and to gather valuable field insights.

Position Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Medical Science Liaisons, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Establish clear goals and performance metrics for the MSL team, ensuring alignment with company objectives.Provide strategic guidance to MSL team to establish and further develop collaborative scientific relationships with external experts.Develop and implement a national medical plan including the Medical Affairs Field Plan.Develop the External Experts Engagement Plan.Strategically position efforts of the MSLs between External Experts interactions, Medical Meetings, Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs), Publication Planning, Medical Information, and other activities.Implement and manage a scientific database to capture and report activities of the MSL Team.Manage the MSLs contributions to the development of the medical publication and conference presentation strategy to ensure clear and consistent communication.Support the development and implementation of medical and clinical Advisory Boards and other scientific meetings with External Experts to explore potential new indications and procure input on the overall Clinical Plan.Maintain existing relationships and establish new collaborative External Experts relationships.Working directly with External Experts and the Clinical team, assist in the development of scientific education activities while ensuring compliance with policies and standards.Engage scientifically at conferences, meetings, and other scientific venues.Monitor the competitive environment to sustain expertise in therapeutic area treatment management and new therapies, competitive products and features and provide feedback to the Management Team on specific initiatives.Support the implementation of Company-Sponsored Trials as needed.Support the implementation of Med Affairs initiatives in support product plans.

Education, Experience & Skill Requirements

MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline.Minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least 5 years in a medical affairs or medical science liaison role.Demonstrated experience in the hematology/oncology therapeutic area, with a strong preference for experience in bone marrow transplant.Proven track record of successful team leadership and development.Demonstrated proficiency in planning, budgeting, and tactical execution of Medical Affairs field activities.Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific/medical and commercial components of drug products to the medical community and other key internal and external audiences.Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage, collaborate, and network with a variety of stakeholders.Knowledge and understanding of disease management and emerging markets preferred.Ability to respond appropriately to needs of key stakeholders and manage expectations.Excellent project management skills and follow through.Demonstrated ability to excel in smaller entrepreneurial organizations.Strong business acumen.Deep understanding of clinical research, scientific data, and medical writing.Proven ability to perform successfully under stringent timelines and with competing priorities.Ability to collaborate and mentor other leaders and managers within Medical Affairs.Excellent computer skills: Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.Knowledge of information technology systems supporting MA activities.Solid understanding of GCP guidelines.Current working knowledge of US legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines relevant to industry interactions with healthcare professionals.
