Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a data scientist to join the People Analytics team within the Enterprise Insights & Analytics (EI&A) organization. This position will report to the Manager, Aeronautics Systems People Analytics, EI&A. This role will sit in our Melbourne, FL location but we may consider a hybrid or teleworker arrangement for this position.
People Analytics is a team of data scientists, behavioral research scientists, insight analysts, competitive intelligence analysts, and technologists who use science to drive insight and people strategy within the business. As a member of the People Analytics team supporting the Aeronautics Systems Sector, you will be responsible for guiding the organization with strategic analysis and providing meaning behind data.
As a data scientist, you will be curious, detail-oriented, and ethically conscious. You seek to ask questions about people, the business, and how we can use data to find solutions. You are a creative problem-solver who can determine appropriate methodologies to apply to unique data applications. You are a strategic thinker that can translate data to create well-informed people decisions to enable better business outcomes. You will develop models to help us approximate our complex business and play out potential future scenarios - ultimately seeking to answer “what if…?” questions. You want to drive positive change for our people, are candid and collaborative in taking on our most difficult analytics projects as well as the process and culture changes that accompany them. You will collaborate across the sector and business to uncover data-driven insights to solve business challenges across the talent life-cycle and enable transformational change.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Create strategic analysis by forming a structured hypothesis, identifying patterns in data using quantitative methods, and deriving insights that drive decision making.
Synthesize and communicate results for executive audiences by capturing meaningful insights and takeaways from data.
Work directly with a wide range of stakeholders, including executive leaders and HR partners, to understand organizational needs and business questions.
Partner with analytics organizations to drive digital transformation strategy throughout sector functions and objectives.
Create data visualizations using common tools (Python or R libraries, Tableau, etc.) and building compelling data stories.
Design, develop and maintain scalable Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) pipelines utilizing python and SQL.
Data preparation/cleaning, integration, and automation from heterogeneous sources.
Translate business questions and identify and implement appropriate modeling or analysis techniques.
Write well-structured and understandable code to enable smooth collaboration across the team and successful model deployment.
Drive projects from initial concept through deployment, leveraging opportunities for automation.
Basic Qualifications for a Data Scientist:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of data analytics experience
Foundational knowledge of statistical modeling and machine learning concepts
Experience with Python
Experience transforming data using SQL or similar data querying language
Proficient in data visualization using Tableau or similar visualization tool
Experience collaborating on projects and communicating findings to audiences
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Data Scientist:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of data analytics experience OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of data analytics experience
Foundational knowledge of statistical modeling and machine learning concepts
Experience with Python
Experience transforming data using SQL or similar data querying language
Proficient in data visualization using Tableau or similar visualization tool
Experience collaborating on projects and communicating findings to audiences
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in a quantitative field (engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, etc.) is preferred
Knowledge of techniques like Monte Carlo simulation, time series modeling, or probabilistic modeling
Experience with lightweight markup languages like Quarto Markdown to craft insights and strategic analysis
Experience using version software control (e.g. git)
Experience with people- or talent-related data
Experience with Workday systems
Salary Range:
$82,900 - $130,800
Salary Range 2:
$101,900 - $160,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
