Institute for Medical Research, Affiliated with the Durham VA Health Care System Administration Office The Institute for Medical Research (IMR) seeks a Chief Financial Officer. The IMR, a nonprofit corporation established in 1989, conducts and supports research and educational activities in collaboration with the Durham VA Health Care System with funding from private companies, governmental agencies, foundations, and academic institutions. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for all financial and accounting activities. The desired candidate will have a proven track record of growth and development, and most importantly, will have demonstrated principled, ethical leadership throughout their career. IMR currently employs approximately 200 and manages approximately $20 million in research and educational funding annually. This position is primarily in-office with the option to work remotely one day per week. This position is located in Durham, North Carolina and candidates must be willing to relocate to the Durham area prior to the start date. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and distributed monthly to management team members and the Board of Directors. Direct all accounting-related activities, including financial reporting, general ledger, account reconciliation, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll activities. Maintain a strong system of internal controls. Ensure compliance with nonprofit and governmental reporting requirements. Coordinate annual financial statement audits, as well as audits conducted by governmental agencies when required. Lead four direct reports: payroll, AP, AR, and project feasibility. Develop team members. Prepare cash forecasts and conduct financial planning & analysis activities. Oversee all treasury management and banking activities. Manage the company’s insurance programs, including workers compensation, general liability, directors & officers, EPL, ERISA and others. Ensure the finance team is fully supporting the financial needs of the Principal Investigators, beginning with the proposal process, and continuing by providing financial assistance and support, including Study P&Ls for active studies monthly. Prepare the annual budget for the IMR Administrative department in collaboration with the Executive Director. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field; MBA preferred. CPA highly desirable. At least 7 years of experience managing financial functions for a nonprofit (preferred) or for-profit corporation, showing growth and increasing responsibilities during career. Experience in research, federal grants/contracts, or clinical research industries a plus. Familiarity with GAO Standards for Internal Control and OMB Single Audit requirements. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment. Proficient in current accounting and software programs including Sage Intacct and the Microsoft suite of products. Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing, as well as established presentation skills. Excellent planning and organizational skills. High integrity with a collaborative work approach. The position of Chief Financial Officer reports to the Executive Director/CEO. Salary Range:

$120,000 to $160,000 per year. Employee Benefits:
