MedStar Harbor Hospital Psychiatric Director of Nursing (DON) Role Overview

Lead and manage nursing and patient care services for the adult inpatient and psychiatric crisis stabilization unitOversee a team of 90+ professionals including Psychiatric RNs, Psychiatric Counselors, PCTs, Unit Secretaries, and a Recreation TherapistDevelop and implement initiatives to enhance patient care, including the establishment of an ECT programExpand recruitment efforts to hire additional PCTs to support unit operationsFoster a positive and supportive unit culture focused on excellence and compassionFunctions as a unit managerIs supported by an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a Nationally accredited program required; Master's degree in Nursing or health-related field from a Nationally accredited program preferred4 years of nursing experience required; 5+ years of management and leadership experience strongly preferred, particularly in an inpatient psychiatric environmentRN-Registered Nurse-State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required upon hire; specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either a clinical specialty or Nursing Administration preferred or must be obtained within two years of hire; BLS-Basic Life Support for healthcare professionals required upon hire
