A law firm is seeking a Senior Environmental Attorney with over 5 years of experience to join the environmental section of its Environment, Land Use, and Natural Resources practice. The attorney will handle a broad range of matters related to state and federal environmental regulations, contaminated site cleanup, compliance with environmental laws, and environmental aspects of real estate and corporate transactions. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and writing skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make clear decisions. This role is based in Portland, OR.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide legal advice and support to clients on compliance with environmental laws, including chemical reporting, stormwater management, waste characterization, and disposal.Represent clients in state and federal cleanup of contaminated sites, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.Respond to government information requests, conduct investigations, and manage enforcement actions.Defend clients in citizen suit and toxic tort cases.Advise on environmental aspects of real estate and corporate transactions, including identifying and allocating environmental risks.Negotiate and draft environmental provisions in transaction documents.Obtain and review environmental site assessments and other due diligence materials.Provide counsel on environmental permitting and regulatory matters.Monitor and interpret changes in environmental laws and regulations that may impact clients.RequirementsMinimum of 5 years of experience in environmental law, particularly in matters involving state and federal cleanup, compliance, and environmental transactions.Strong understanding of environmental regulations at both state and federal levels.Proven track record in advising on environmental aspects of corporate transactions.Ability to manage complex cases and regulatory matters independently.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts concisely.Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.Proficiency in negotiating and drafting legal documents related to environmental matters.Education and CertificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Membership in good standing with the Bar in one or more of the following states: Alaska, California, District of Columbia, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, Utah, or Washington (required).Skills and CompetenciesStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Ability to listen actively and respond effectively to clients' needs.Competence in managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.Knowledge of environmental site assessments and related due diligence processes.Job LocationPortland, ORPaid family & medical leave, with an on/off-ramp program for expecting parents.Unlimited PTO and a flexible schedule program.Remote work options available.Sabbatical program for eligible attorneys.Competitive medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, AD&D, EAP, FSA, and Voluntary Life, ADD, and LTC options.
