Senior Underwriter

The Senior Underwriter will work directly with field advisors and clients with insurance applications. This position is responsible for underwriting insurance applications within strict guidelines up to $3,000,000 of life insurance face amount and $5000 monthly benefit on disability.Key ResponsibilitiesReview applications from advisors to determine insurability, categorize the risk to determine the appropriate premium and rating class.Review and assess medical and non-medical requirements, partner with medical director, leadership and peers as needed to determine insurability. On average, actively manage case load of 250 plus applications.Direct contact with field to gather financial and medical information on clients, communicate underwriting risk assessment decisions and to assist the field throughout the insurance process.Provide formal mentoring of less experienced underwriters. Co-signing on all policies up to $3,000,000 on life insurance and $5,000.00 monthly benefit on disability amounts for underwriter trainees.Travels to field offices or presents via Web-ex, conference calls, or other available technology for the purposes of coaching, training and relationship building with advisors.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent3-5 years relevant experience with Individual Life and/or Disability UnderwritingDemonstrated decision making skills.Excellent communication skills.Demonstrated analytical skills.Ability to coach and mentor others.Preferred QualificationsHave or be working towards designations such as FALU, CLU, FLMI, etc.Base Pay Salary$70,000 - $75,000Ameriprise Financial is an equal opportunity employer.
