San Jose Behavioral Health is an 133-bed inpatient mental health facility in northern California where adult men and women, and adolescents can receive comprehensive inpatient treatment for a range of behavioral and mental health disorders. Conveniently located in the heart of San Jose and easily accessible to residents in Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, and Alameda County, our campus is situated amid gently rolling hills and features serene views of our beautiful natural surroundings.

Job Summary

The Admissions Counselor works directly with physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals around the bay area to screen candidates for admission, perform insurance verifications, perform intake assessments, and communicate directly with patients and their loved ones upon arrival at our facility.

THIS POSITION IS PRN - On Call

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Facilitate intake, admission and utilization review process for incoming patients.

Perform insurance benefit verifications, disseminating the information gathered to patients, their families, and appropriate internal staff.

Provide accurate and ongoing assessment of patients’ status in the admission and utilization process.

Respond to inquiries about the facility within facility policy time frames.

Schedule/complete pre-admission assessments and communicate recommendations to patients or their families.

Collaborate with other facility medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions.

Provide education to patients and their families throughout their stay.

Perform ongoing assessments of physical/function, emotional, social, spiritual and financial needs of patients and implement crisis intervention and referral.

Provide education regarding healthcare and social resource systems to empower patients and their families to access resources independently.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in a social services field required (if state allows).

Master's degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.

One or more years' experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

Current licensure, as required for the area of clinical specialty, i.e., current RN license, CAC or other clinical counseling or therapy license, as designated by the state in which the facility operates.

CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

First aid may be required based on state or facility regulations.

COMPENSATION

Compensation for roles at San Jose Behavioral Health varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, San Jose Behavioral Health provides a reasonable hourly range of compensation for roles that may be hired in California as set forth below:

SJBH Range = $29.00/hour - $45.00/hour - DOE

Additional hourly stipends apply for all PM/NOC shift hours.
