In addition to serving as the spiritual and ceremonial center of the University, the Chapel sustains a long, distinguished tradition in music, arts, and cultural programming.
Job SummaryThe Associate Dean for Community Life supports the strategic initiatives of Rockefeller Chapel by:
Providing leadership and fostering student leadership and participation in the established religious and spiritual communities that meet regularly in Rockefeller and Bond chapels.
Providing spiritual care and resource referral to those most inclined to place initial trust in a religious professional during times of crisis.
Serving alongside the dean of Rockefeller Chapel and Spiritual Life staff as a leader of religious and secular rituals for the entire campus community during times of crisis and celebration.
Responsibilities
Administers religious rites in an ecumenical Christian setting while possessing the creativity and experience to lead multi-faith and secular rituals.
Fosters student participation and develops student leaders for public gatherings and ceremonies.
Ensures that students understand they are welcome to participate in activities supported by Rockefeller Chapel.
Cultivates a sense of belonging through community building activities.
Shares in supporting the campus community as a trusted advisor during moments of crisis and celebration.
Supports vocational discernment and development for students, faculty, and staff.
Possesses the credentials and experience to provide individual support as a confidential resource for Title IX.
Engages a diverse community on matters of meaning and vocation.
Collaborates with divisions and offices on campus in the development of multi-faith programming.
Occasionally serves as the Dean’s designee in his absence.
Navigates a large, complex organization with wisdom and compassion.
Develops content for Chapel publications and website.
Serves on University committees as a representative of Rockefeller Chapel.
Manages the interpretation and application of program policies.
Contributes to program content, policies, and strategic planning efforts.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master of Divinity degree from an ATS accredited divinity school or equivalent.
PhD strongly preferred.
At least one completed unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Endorsement by a recognized religious body.
Experience:
Significant religious leadership experience in a university, denominational office, congregational, or hospital setting.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage confidential information.
Exercise independent judgment and work effectively with a diverse team.
Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills.
Working Conditions
Climb stairs, make rounds, stand for extended periods, and move frequently within buildings.
Occasional light lifting (10-50 lbs).
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Capacity to work independently without detailed instructions.
