Senior Control Systems Engineer

Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corporation, a family owned business for over 75 years, takes pride in powering progress in health, security and quality of life. We are key partners with the world’s leading medical devices, semiconductor, scientific analytics and industrial systems manufacturers. When they want to push the limits of what’s possible with high voltage applications, they turn to us to make it happen. While Spellman is not a household name, our products are used to make and often power many of the most advanced technologies that make modern life possible. With design and manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and Asia, we have become the preferred provider of high voltage power solutions for OEMs pushing the boundaries of technology around the world by designing and producing the products they need to power progress.About The Role

Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corp. is a leading and growing international company that delivers advanced products and solutions into the medical imaging, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Food Inspection and Transport Security markets at the global scale. As a part of our continuous focus on offering high performance and cutting-edge products and solutions to our markets, the field of advanced power conversion, power management and controls is of strategic and critical importance. In this context, this role requires highly talented, motivated, creative, and experienced engineer to develop, simulate, integrate, test and validate digital control of Voltage Controlled Current Sources (VCCS) and non-linear systems. Our Senior Control Systems Engineer will possess the ability to work in a team environment to lead and assist with all aspects of control system project implementation from project proposal support through start-up and commissioning. What You Will Do

As a key member of the Embedded Systems and Controls Team, define, design, develop and deliver control systems integrated into high voltage power supplies to satisfy technical, project, and quality requirements.Prepare and review detailed technical specifications for the control of high voltage power supplies for various applications; (medical imaging being the immediate need, but this position will also support other applications in the business as needed), that meet customer requirements.Support other engineering functional groups with their unique application digital control design requirements.Actively contribute to multiple projects simultaneously filling the role of the control systems lead within integrated project teams achieving technical, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.Contribute to project planning, execution, and meetings. Keep the Project Manager and team informed of progress, risks, and opportunities. Complete required project metrics and design documentation. Understand all parts of larger projects.Ensure all design activity and practices implement and foster a culture of safety, quality, on time delivery and meeting cost targets.Create and refine models of the power electronic controls for use by power systems engineers for performing studies of power quality and system stability.Maintain ownership of all engineering artifacts associated with specific power converters on projects including software specifications, control specifications, software, control drawings, software, factory acceptance test procedures, and commissioning instructions.Develop and maintain project documentation as required by SHV project development and implementation process as well as by the customer specifications. Ensure compliance with all Spellman and other governing security regulations.Lead the design, development and implementation of optimized control architectures that meet the product requirements by leveraging existing approaches and integrating innovative technology smoothly into the design cycle to support the needs of business growth.Aid in the conversion of Analog control systems to digital control systems.Take the lead in design reviews, working sessions, trade studies and road mapping committees, as necessary.Review and approve project design drawings and related documentation.Establish, develop, and enhance the configuration and parameterization of Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform to accelerate development, verification, and validation of control solutions.Review, develop and recommend control strategies for new projects.Support the leadership team with creative solutions to complex control problems in the development of technology road maps (technology, tools, and methodologies). In response to future business opportunities and strategy, create valuable intellectual property and document Records of Inventions (ROI) on unique approaches/concepts to HVPS control whilst providing direction and a domain application viewpoint to the Engineering teams.Proactively mentor and develop team members. What You Need

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.Minimum of 5 years of power conversion design experience.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from a concept to a product.Knowledge and application of advanced controls, optimization, estimation, or detection algorithms.Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C, C++, or Python.Demonstrated experience (algorithm development and software implementation and validation) in developing systems solutions for complex power conversion systems.Demonstrated understanding and use the offline and real time models of the overall electrical power electronics plant, propose, and implement model improvements.Familiarity and hands-on experience with various Control Systems programming packages such as PSIM, MATLAB, HMI, Simulink and others.Preferred Qualifications
