OverviewThe field advocacy team for the American Heart Association works in all 50 states and most major communities to pass equitable policies at the state and local levels to advance our mission.ResponsibilitiesManage statewide issue advocacy strategic planning, development, and execution in alignment with the mission and strategic plan.Oversee establishment of state and community legislative agendas with input from volunteers and develop campaign plans around American Heart Association policy priorities.Strategize with government relations and community advocacy directors on interactions with members of the legislature and other government officials.Utilize effective management techniques in the selection, supervision, monitoring, training, and counseling of staff.Participate in strategic planning and advocacy meetings throughout the year.Nurture relationships for philanthropic organizations and community leaders to advance advocacy campaigns.Partner with the SVP Field Advocacy to ensure consistent field implementation of priorities.Submit periodic updates and reports on the status of issues and ensure compliance with state laws.Ensure grassroots and media advocacy efforts are coordinated with American Heart Association staff.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Relations or related area.Eight (8) years of experience in legislative and regulatory lobbying at the state level.Eight (8) years of experience managing issue advocacy and creating coalitions.Five (5) years of experience managing staff and volunteers.Five (5) years of experience in policy analysis and legislative documentation.Outstanding oral and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Five (5) years of knowledge of voluntary health organizations or nonprofit organizations.Three (3) years of experience in health care and/or public health policy.CompensationExpected pay range will be $160,000 - $230,000, commensurate with experience.At American Heart Association | American Stroke Association, our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
