Transportation Manager
to join our team! The
Transportation Manager
is responsible for directing and overseeing transportation-related operations for the Distribution Center. The Transportation Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining the function of transportation activities, with a safety-first mindset, while optimizing costs, ensuring compliance, and delivering high-quality customer service. In this exciting role, you will: Planning and Coordination:
Develop and implement transportation strategies and plans to meet the organization's objectives. This includes determining the most effective transportation routes, modes of transportation (e.g., trucking, shipping, LTL, etc.), and scheduling shipments. Fleet Management:
Manage a fleet of vehicles (trucks, vans, or other transportation equipment), ensuring they are well-maintained, compliant with regulations, and utilized efficiently. This may involve organizing regular inspections and maintenance schedules. Budgeting and Cost Control:
Create and manage transportation budgets, monitor expenses, and identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising service quality. Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date with transportation laws and regulations, ensuring that all transportation activities, including driver and vehicle compliance, meet legal requirements. Safety and Risk Management:
Implement safety procedures and guidelines for transportation activities, emphasizing the importance of driver safety and accident prevention. Data Analysis and Reporting:
Utilize transportation management systems and other tools to gather data on transportation performance and create reports for management. Problem-solving:
Address transportation-related issues and incidents promptly, finding efficient solutions to minimize disruptions to delivery schedules or customer service. Team Management:
Manage a team of drivers and provide leadership, training, and support to enhance team performance. Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to optimize transportation operations. Customer Service:
Work closely with customer service teams to ensure that transportation operations meet customer expectations and resolve any transportation-related customer issues. Transportation Operations Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of transportation modes and their respective regulations, as well as familiarity with logistics and supply chain management principles. Regulatory Compliance:
Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations at local and national levels to ensure full compliance. Financial Acumen:
Ability to create and manage budgets, analyze transportation costs, and identify opportunities for cost optimization. Problem-Solving Skills:
Aptitude for identifying and addressing transportation-related issues promptly and efficiently. Leadership and Team Management:
Strong leadership qualities to manage a team of drivers, providing guidance, support, and fostering a positive work environment. Vendor and Supplier Management:
Ability to negotiate contracts and manage relationships with carriers and vendors. Safety Management:
A strong commitment to safety and the ability to implement safety protocols. Communication Skills:
Effective communication with internal teams, external partners, and customers. Time Management:
Skill in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple transportation operations simultaneously. Customer Service Orientation:
A focus on delivering high-quality service to customers. Adaptability and Flexibility:
The capability to adapt to changing circumstances. Continuous Improvement Mindset:
Willingness to seek out and implement process improvements. Your education & experience should be similar to: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Transportation Management; extensive experience will be considered in lieu of degree. Minimum 5 years of experience managing drivers. Minimum 5 years of experience as a delivery driver and ability to drive as a backup driver with an active CDL A. Proficiency in TMS and GPS systems, and other relevant technologies. Working conditions: Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Occasional exposure to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic; and vibration. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The required physical abilities to perform this job: Able to hear and speak on telephone. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate keyboard, mouse and other technical instruments. Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and/or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift/move 100 pounds or more.
