Our employees play an important role in shaping the future of San Francisco.Application Opening : December 11, 2023Extended Application Filing Deadline : January 26, 2024.Under general administrative direction, manages, and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering, architecture and/or landscape architecture personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions related to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of projects and systems.The essential functions of the role may include:Directing, supervising, and coordinating the design of complex engineering projects.Conducting interviews, selecting, training, monitoring, and evaluating departmental staff and consultants.Planning, organizing, and directing the administration and management of contracts.Overseeing the preparation of complex construction contracts and documents.Establishing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and administrative directives.Managing projects and coordinating activities between units and other groups.Consulting with technical staff, conducting meetings, and representing the City.Writing, reviewing, and approving documents.Supervising the review of shop drawings by contractors and field inspection staff.Performing other related duties as assigned.How to qualify

1. Seven (7) years verifiable professional engineering work experience, with four (4) years as a licensed professional engineer in the specialty you are applying for. Two (2) of the seven (7) years must be equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco class 5241 Engineer in the specialty you are applying for.AND2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in

Electrical Engineering.Notes:Some engineering positions may require possession of a certificate issued by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) or equivalent.Some positions may require additional special engineering licensing and/or work experience in areas such as Construction Management, Structural Design, or Environmental Engineering.Most positions require a valid California Driver's License.Substitutions for Engineering Specialties:A Master's Degree in Engineering may substitute for 1 year of work experience.A PhD in Engineering may substitute for 2 years of work experience.Working Conditions : Some positions may require specific lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions; and extended periods of walking over uneven surfaces.Verification :Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point in the application process.
