The Division includes the residency program, commitments for didactic and clinical education in the predoctoral programs, and basic, translational, and clinical research programs. The individual chosen will be responsible for oversight and development of educational and research programs in pediatric dentistry, as well as faculty recruitment and development, strategic planning, and program management. The individual will also actively participate in the educational programs of the Division. Depending on the training and interests of the individual, duties may include providing clinical care and engagement in extramurally funded research.Appointment will be made at Associate or Full Professor in the HS Clinical, Clinical X, In Residence or Ladder Rank series. Academic rank is commensurate with experience.Essential functions and duties of the position include the following:Provides strategic direction and leadership for the Division in its education, research, and service missions, specifically in the alignment of clinicians, scientists, and research infrastructure with institutional strategies and program priorities.Develops and implements a Division strategy, including the associated annual budget and operating plans.Leads the development of the research agenda, including consistent performance targets and metrics.Develops and implements scientific communication strategies that inform, link, and bond scientific faculty within the Division.Develops and implements plans for recruiting key faculty and succession planning.Evaluates performance of faculty, trainees, and staff in line with UCSF guidelines.Leads the day-to-day operations of an active research program.Coordinates interactions between researchers and graduate training programs in collaborative institutions.Establishes collaborations for local, regional, and international research.Develops plans for philanthropic support for research programs.Assists with philanthropic efforts and external presentations as needed.Accomplishes continued improvement in training programs.Oversees regulatory management activities and compliance with standards of professionalism.Required Qualifications:Candidates must hold a DDS or DMD degree or equivalent and be qualified to be appointed at the associate professor or professor level at UCSF.The candidate must be board-certified in pediatric dentistry.Must be licensed or have the ability to practice dentistry in California.Administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting.Demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion.Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills.Distinguished record of research and clinical excellence in dentistry.Experience and expertise in dealing with a wide range of programs and specialties.Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to define a vision and execute it.Highly collaborative with experience in facilitating and coordinating alignment activities.Superior communication skills.Record of success in mentoring and developing faculty.Capability to succeed in different environments as an effective change agent.High energy and enthusiasm balanced with professionalism.Ability to build bridges and function as a team player.Effective balance of personal and professional life.Preferred Qualifications:Active research and grant portfolio desired.The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.
