CBT-5211-C00229Under general administrative direction, manages and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering, architecture, and/or landscape architecture personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions in connection with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of projects and systems.Examples of Important and Essential Duties:Directs, supervises, and coordinates the design of complex engineering/architecture/landscape architecture projects.Interviews, selects, trains, monitors, and evaluates departmental staff and consultants.Plans, organizes, and directs the administration and management of contracts.Directs, supervises, and reviews the preparation of complex construction contract and construction documents.Establishes and implements departmental policies, procedures, and administrative directives.Manages projects, directs, reviews, and supervises the review of shop drawings by contractors.Supervises field inspection staff, coordinates all activities between a unit and other groups, and consults with technical staff.Conducts meetings and represents the City.Writes and/or reviews and approves documents.Performs other related duties as assigned.How to qualify

1. Eight (8) years of verifiable professional architecture work experience, of which four (4) years must be as a licensed

Professional Architect . Two (2) of the eight (8) years must be equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco class 5268 Architect.AND2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a

Professional Architect

in the State of California.Substitutions for Architecture Specialty:A Master's Degree in Architecture may substitute for 1 (one) year of work experience.A Ph.D. in Architecture may substitute for 2 (two) years of work experience.This note applies to all candidates applying from out of the state of California for all specialties:1. Candidates licensed in other states who otherwise meet the minimum requirements of this announcement, but do not possess the required California license, may file for this examination, and if successful, will be placed under waiver on the resulting eligible list until the required California license is presented.License or Certificate:Some positions may require a valid California Driver's License.Working Conditions:

Some positions may require specific lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time and over uneven surfaces. Positions in this class may also be required to work specific schedules which may include weekends, holidays, part-time, nights, and/or overtime.Verification:Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point in the application, examination and/or departmental selection process.
