The Assistant Director, International Student Initiatives (ADISI) is a key role within the Global Support team in Global Programs. The ADISI, through collaboration, investigation, and outreach, will help support the University’s efforts to ensure the successful academic and personal experience of all international students at Boston University. Directly reporting to the Managing Director for Strategy and Communications, the Assistant Director for International Student Initiatives will partner with academic and administrative units on the Charles River and Medical Campuses, including within Global Programs and its International Students and Scholars Office, to help facilitate student interactions and engagement to ensure they are successfully navigating and thriving in multicultural classrooms. In addition, the ADISI will help to identify, develop, and oversee new program opportunities that further the efforts of Global Programs to support and promote BU’s global engagement.Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:Essential Function 1: [20%]• Act as a lead cultural mentor on campus.• Work with the various on-campus advising offices to facilitate cultural sensitivity and cultural mentoring.• Identify and recommend best practices for improving the international student experience on campus.• Counsel and support international students, including connecting them to appropriate academic and non-academic support services on their respective campus.Essential Function 2: [20%]• In collaboration with the Global Support team within Global Programs, assist in the continuous improvement and management of BU First Class, BU’s online pre-arrival course for all entering international students, and the development of additional programs for the international student community, undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree, and those who support them, such as faculty and staff.• Take the lead to assess and recommend the best platform for delivery to ensure meaningful impact, growth in participation rates, and ease of reporting program statistics.Essential Function 3: [20%]• Work closely with all student support offices on all BU campuses, with a particular focus on individual BU schools/colleges, to develop opportunities for greater interaction and connections among international and domestic students, both academically and socially. Write monthly International Student Newsletter.Essential Function 4: [20%]• Manage International Peer Mentor program. Work with International Admission on gathering a list of all incoming international freshmen each semester to promote the program to and recruit Mentors from the Freshman through Junior classes each year.
