The Department of Chemical Engineering seeks applications for open-rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor), interdisciplinary faculty candidates with research interests focused within the food, water, energy nexus. Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams across the University and will complement existing strengths.

We are seeking up to 3 faculty this cycle with research interests and expertise in areas of:

Energy Storage for a Sustainable Future

including fundamental materials development, energy storage & delivery capability, synthetic biology tools for energy, climate and environmental modeling, and new novel low-cost options.

(De)manufacturing

including alternatives for feedstocks and degradation of the products, synthetic biology tools for sustainability, life cycle analysis, catalysis, recycling/upcycling, plastics/microplastics, carbon capture, renewable and sustainable consumer products, and process intensification.

Clean Water

including materials and filter development, cost-effective sourcing, delivery of clean water to urban and densely populated areas, water treatment, environmental sensing and monitoring.

In addition to foci listed above, fields that may be relevant include materials and nanomaterial science and engineering, photochemistry, synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and bioengineering.

Responsibilities

Faculty members at Northeastern teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level; mentor students and postdocs in their area of research; and participate in service to the department, university, and discipline. Candidates are expected to develop independent research programs that attract external funding and generate vigorous research programs cross-cutting chemical, biological, environmental engineering, and/or materials science. Requirements

A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely relevant field by the appointment start date is required. We encourage applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including academia and industry and encourage joint appointments within and across colleges. Many of our recent hires enjoy joint appointments with the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and we are seeking candidates who are interested in this collaborative environment. Academic rank at the Associate Professor and Full Professor levels will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and scholarly excellence.
