Keck Medicine of USCHospitalLos Angeles, CaliforniaThe Cardiology RN works directly with the Cardiology Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. The RN serves as a personal contact for physicians, staff, patients, and outside departments to address problems, issues, or concerns that require attention. The RN will educate patients on the importance of medication compliance, routine periodic lab work, and preventative measures. They will also follow up to ensure cardiology patients are up-to-date on testing, preventative measures, and follow up accordingly. The RN will assist with coordinating care for diagnostic studies, labs, referrals, and hospital admissions. They will triage patient phone calls and recognize and report new and urgent signs and symptoms. The RN will also triage patients that present to the clinic with symptoms without an appointment. The RN will provide guidance to other RNs, LVNs, MAs, device techs, and other clinical staff. Ensures compliance with policy to maintain HIPAA, safety, and infection control standards. Complex, independent problem solving when overseeing clinical staff which may overlap into multiple sub-specialties within Cardiology (General Cardiology, Interventional, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, and ACHD). Hybrid opportunities exist per operational needs. Other duties as assigned.Essential Duties:The RN manages the physiological and behavioral functioning combined with psychological and social support as related to the patient's cardiac condition.Participates in ongoing Departmental Process Improvement projects.Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.Completes initial and annual skills validations.Functions as a patient advocate.Assesses a patient's knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic and/or interventional procedure.Plans, with the patient, the course of their testing/treatment in coordination with the physician.Assists with the performance of cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures in the Special Procedures Lab.Provides for continuous evaluation of patient care through the nursing process and patient satisfaction evaluation form.Educates patient/patient's family about procedure and treatment according to each patient's individual needs and documents results.Documents accurately, on chart, procedures performed and patient's tolerance.Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in clinical nursing, equipment, and procedures through formal and informal continuing education.Orients and instructs other unit personnel. Demonstrates ability to positively influence other's behavior by serving as a role model.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Req Bachelor's degree Graduate of an accredited RN Program (BSN).Req Minimum one year Cardiology experience in the outpatient setting required. In lieu of outpatient cardiology experience will require minimum one year acute care experience in Cardiology/Telemetry Unit.Req Demonstration of excellent organizational skills as well as interpersonal skills.Req Experience in data management.Preferred Qualifications:Pref One year acute care experience in General Cardiology immediately prior to application preferred.Pref Advanced certification recognized by the ANCC included not limited to CVRN preferred.Required Licenses/Certifications:Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing) Valid California Registered Nursing license.Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (Required within LA City only).The hourly rate range for this position is $47.31 - $88.00.
