The

Big Data Engineering

team within Core Engineering is responsible for providing large-scale distributed processing and storage products to the firm as a fully managed offering. We provide production support, operations, and evaluate new products and features. Big Data Engineers build infrastructure to manage and automate all aspects of operations, monitoring, health recovery, provisioning, and config management. You'll also assess new cloud database offerings and develop control planes to enforce firm standard controls.

Job Summary:

Goldman Sachs is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Big Data Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing and implementing complex software applications, and a strong background in computer science and distributed data processing/storage systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions to meet business needs and will be responsible for building and maintaining highly reliable and scalable systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop and maintain complex software systems and applicationsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define technical solutionsImplement and maintain best practices for software development and engineering processesDevelop and maintain software documentation, including design specifications, user guides and manualsEnsure the reliability, scalability and performance of software systemsTroubleshoot and debug complex software issuesImplement controls and guardrails for cloud databaseBuild automation and recovery pipelines for Big Data product offeringsMentor and coach junior engineers

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field5+ years of experience in software development and engineeringStrong proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, others)Experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Snowflake, BigQuery) and relational databases, and knowledge of distributed systems.Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure)Solid understanding of software engineering principles, algorithms and data structuresExperience in developing large-scale, highly available, and distributed systemsExperience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and web servicesStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong communication and collaboration skillsExperience with Agile software development methodologiesExperience with Linux environments and basic system administration

Salary RangeThe expected base salary for this Jersey City, New Jersey, United States-based position is $150000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
