Unit 9 - CSUEU - Technical Support Services, Probationary, Full Time, Information Systems & Technology, Telecommute eligiblePosition SummaryThis position serves as a Research Software Engineer within the Research & Cyberinfrastructure group and will be responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting processes and software used by faculty and researchers for both instruction and research. The Research Software Engineer will engage and consult with faculty and researchers to understand their needs and provide guidance for using existing resources or recommending new resources, which may include on-premises hardware or cloud solutions.The Research Software Engineer will be part of SDSU’s Software Factory. The Software Factory is a new high-performance effort focused on the containerization of instructional and research workloads. The team consists of staff and students who strive to meet the growing demands of machine learning and data science by leveraging DevOps practices and tools to build and maintain container images for use on existing cyberinfrastructure resources.This position will participate in an NSF-funded Cybertraining project focused on learning cyberinfrastructure (JupyterHub, high-performance computing, and machine learning) skills. This project is multi-institutional and will focus on skills necessary to support faculty and researchers use of national and regional cyberinfrastructure by broadening the capabilities of the Research & Cyberinfrastructure team.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.
