The department stresses the development of technological, critical thinking and writing skills as well as provides instruction in areas such as theory, criminology, visual sociology, family, globalization, research methods, and community fieldwork.The Sociology Program is guided by the philosophy of "Sociology in Service to Community" which means a commitment to social justice and to collaborating with community organizations and civic groups to help address complex and diverse social issues. The program provides students with marketable tools needed to work in a broad range of professional, community settings in addition to preparing students for graduate school.ResponsibilitiesTeach assigned upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. The Sociology program at California State University Dominguez Hills invites candidates to apply for part-time lecturing positions. We are looking for candidates with expertise, direct experience, and a related degree to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in any of the following areas: sociology of aging, the family, criminology (juvenile delinquency, criminal theory, gangs and adolescent subcultures, deviant behavior and corrections), minority racial ethnic relations, social theory, statistics, research methods, social psychology, global organizations and social processes, gender studies, sociology of education, and medical sociology.QualificationsRequired QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.Experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.Preferred QualificationsA Master’s degree in Sociology or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience.A Ph.D. in Sociology or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).Employment RequirementSatisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.Additional InformationInitial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
