We're looking for an outstanding Mechanical Engineer with a background in the design, analysis, reliability, and lifetime of mechanisms.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing design, analysis, sizing, and selection of mechanical mechanisms and components including gears, bearings, lubricants, motors, and gearboxes for space environments.

This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical design, while optimizing for high volume production and meeting cross discipline requirements.

Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable technical approach.Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables.Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved.Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware.

You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Redmond, WA, USA BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering- 5+ years of experience with CAD.- 5+ years of experience with design and development of hardware at scale (High End Precision Mechanisms desired)- 5+ years of experience with development, test, deployment of aerospace systems.- Experience with specifying/justifying margins and test sequences, and qualifying space systems.- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.- Experience in DFM and manufacturing process development. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 6+ years of experience in the design, qualification, volume production of PCBA enclosures for spacecraft.- Experience with NX, TeamCenter- Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs.- Experienced with Issue tracking applications (JIRA, TRAC)- Strong time and task management skills with consistent attention to detail.- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
