Position Summary

The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) at Empower Pharmacy plays a crucial role in safeguarding the well-being of our employees and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, all while aligning with our core values of people, service, quality, and innovation. This leadership position is pivotal in developing and executing a visionary long-term EHS strategy that supports the company’s mission and drives continuous improvement across all levels of the organization. Your role is essential in fostering a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship, ensuring that these principles are embedded in every aspect of our operations.In this role, you will be responsible for formulating and implementing comprehensive EHS policies and procedures that not only meet but exceed local, state, and federal regulations. You will act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, providing critical insights and forward-thinking recommendations on EHS matters. Your leadership will be instrumental in overseeing the documentation, investigation, and follow-up of safety incidents, ensuring that corrective actions are effectively implemented to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, you will design and lead employee health and wellness programs, strategically coordinating injury management and facilitating proactive communication with managers, supervisors, and Human Resources.Your responsibilities will also include leading strategic inspections, assessments, and evaluations to identify and mitigate potential hazards, managing waste disposal practices in compliance with regulatory requirements, and developing comprehensive EHS training programs. You will ensure that all EHS records are accurately maintained and reported to leadership, strategically identifying risks and opportunities for improvement. Duties and Responsibilities

Formulates and executes a visionary long-term EHS strategy that aligns with and supports the company’s overarching goals and objectives.Cultivates and inspires the EHS team, fostering leadership and ensuring the successful implementation of strategic EHS initiatives.Acts as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, delivering critical insights and forward-thinking recommendations on EHS matters.Champions a culture of safety and health, embedding these values across the organization to drive continuous improvement.Creates and maintains a crisis management policy to ensure the company is proactive and prepared for crisis scenarios.Responsible for planning, coordination, and execution of EHS-impacting incidents (i.e. Inclement weather, site-security incidents, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordables).Establishes, integrates, and sustains comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and frameworks that drive organizational excellence.Strategically ensures the organization’s adherence to all local, state, and federal EHS regulations and standards.Provides oversight and strategic direction for all occupational safety and health programs, ensuring they align with the company’s objectives.Continually monitors global regulatory and legal requirements as well as industry best practices and updates and modifies enterprise EHS policies and procedures as needed to ensure continued compliance and support of developing business strategies and goals.Develops policies and procedures to reduce risk by standardization of practices and expectations across the organization.Develops policies and procedures to handle events in a controlled manner when crises occur.Designs and leads innovative employee health and wellness programs that enhance overall workforce well-being.Strategically coordinates employee injury management, working with medical providers to optimize care and recovery.Facilitates proactive communication with managers, supervisors, and Human Resources to effectively manage and support injured employees.Designs and leads health-related onboarding and ongoing health requirements such as hearing, vision, and drug testing.Directs thorough investigations of safety incidents, injuries, and near misses, providing strategic insights to prevent future occurrences.Oversees the documentation and strategic follow-up of incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.Ensures all required reports are strategically completed and communicated to relevant agencies and stakeholders.Develops and implements comprehensive EHS training programs that empower all employees and leaders with essential safety knowledge.Strategically oversees the onboarding and orientation of new employees, embedding a strong safety culture from day one.Leads strategic inspections, assessments, and evaluations to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring a safe work environment.Manages FIT testing and other safety assessments, ensuring compliance and safety readiness.Strategically oversees waste management practices, ensuring documentation and disposal processes comply with all regulatory requirements.Provides leadership in waste management, driving sustainable and compliant practices across all locations.Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal waste requirements while continually monitoring and communicating new and revised regulations.Ensures strategic and comprehensive management of EHS records, maintaining accuracy and compliance.Reports to leadership on safety compliance status, strategically identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.Communicates progress and status to key leadership on a regular cadence that includes ensuring safe working environments, appropriate training for relevant employees on key safety behaviors, and tracking against identified success measures.Promotes a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, driving strategic enhancements in EHS practices.Identifies and implements strategic opportunities for continuous improvement, minimizing future risks and enhancing safety outcomes.Establishes and provides ongoing visibility to leadership on critical EHS Key Performance Indicators, related corrective actions, recommended preventative measures, and results of implementation strategies to advise and track progress on overall enterprise EHS goals.Provides strategic leadership and performance evaluation for the EHS team, fostering professional growth and development.Partners with department directors to strategically assess and fulfill department headcount needs, participating in the hiring process.Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Deep knowledge and experience in OSHA, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, Drug Enforcement Administration controlled substance waste regulatory requirements, etc.Extensive knowledge and experience in waste management, both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical wastes.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to all levels of an organization.Strong work ethic, able to work independently with little direct supervision.Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and trends affecting compliance and safety practices.Proficiency with Windows applications and Microsoft Office programs such as Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Excellent negotiation skills to deal effectively with individuals and groups within and outside the organization.Ability to facilitate presentations and training sessions.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is required. Master's degree preferred.Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial safety, with at least 5 years in a strategic leadership role.Extensive experience in a current good manufacturing practice environment strongly preferred.Proven experience developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive EHS programs and related training tailored to a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or related certification preferred.
