Title: Tax Manager, State Tax Operations & StrategyCompany: FortiveLocation: EverettDepartment: TaxReports To: Senior Tax Manager, State Tax Operations & StrategyThe Role:As a Tax Manager, State Tax Operations and Strategy, you will gain experience with a wide variety of state tax matters including income tax planning, compliance, controversy, accounting for income taxes, and indirect taxes. You will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic and innovative tax team, stay current with the latest state developments, take on new challenges that will help you develop your skills, and help advance our technology roadmap. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a problem solver with excellent analytical skills who can communicate complex tax issues to stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:Assist with the preparation and review of multi-state income, franchise, and gross receipts tax returns.Manage state tax audits, including responding to audit requests, negotiating with tax authorities, and ensuring timely resolution of audit issues.Ensure compliance with state income tax laws and regulations, including analyzing tax return positions and identifying tax planning opportunities.Prepare and review FIN 48 documentation related to state tax positions.Assist with the preparation of quarterly and year-end provision calculations, including analyzing deferred tax assets and liabilities related to state income tax.Support the preparation and payment of quarterly state tax estimates and extensions.Stay up to date with state tax laws and regulations and advise management on the potential impact of new laws and regulations.Consult with our operating companies on indirect tax matters including sales and use tax, property tax, and business license tax.Assist with indirect tax filings, including sales and use tax, property tax, and business license tax.Research notices and follow-up with written responses and/or compile necessary data.Provide support for tax planning strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and other special projects.Drive the process to automate and streamline recurring calculations and develop standard work for data collections.Support internal teams by providing subject matter expertise and informal training to the team.We believe our tax team thrives in our environment where individuals can actively engage in projects to fully utilize our tax attributes and integrate new businesses into our processes and corporate structure. With that in mind – in addition to your contributions to our State Tax Operations team, you will:Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, including finance and legal teams.Grow your subject matter expertise through research and analysis to our ever-evolving business.Actively participate in projects to continue our investments in tax technology tools.Actively participate in projects to integrate acquisitions.Be supported in efforts to continue your training, stay current in tax developments, and establish yourself in the tax community.Be encouraged to develop your skills within the Fortive Business System.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Accounting/Finance5+ years of progressive corporate or public accounting experience in state income and indirect taxPreferred Qualifications:Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA preferredResults-oriented, technically-curious, and values effective collaborationStrong written and oral communication skillsComprehensive understanding of US tax principlesExperience with both Corporation and Partnership income taxExperience with CorptaxExperience with Alteryx, PowerBI, and similar automation toolsHigh level of demonstrated proficiency with MSFT Office Suite
