A city of diverse and vibrant neighborhoods seamlessly connected by safe, reliable, affordable transportation for all.Division Description:The Chief of Staff Office (COS) is within the Executive Director Division of the SFMTA and operates at a tactical, strategic and operational level, working with the executive and senior management teams of the agency to advance key strategic initiatives, communications and relationships.Position Description:The Public Relations Assistant will support the Internal Communications team to keep employees informed about the agency’s vision, goals and values, new policies and practices, training opportunities and equity programs, and other initiatives. Their communications messages will instill a sense of pride and belonging among SFMTA employees.Examples of Important and Essential Duties:Works closely with staff from all divisions of the agency to develop internal communications that keep employees informed, inspired and connected to the SFMTA’s mission and culture.Assists with developing and updating content for the SFMTA intranet.Drafts visual content such as videos and photo stories for internal and external communication channels.Designs drafts of posters to be displayed in SFMTA facilities and graphics for the SFMTA’s digital signs.Drafts blog posts, PPT presentations and all-staff emails to educate SFMTA employees and the public about agency policies and operations.Creates social media posts that highlight SFMTA employees and agency successes.Regularly visits SFMTA facilities to gather feedback from employees and provide them with information that helps them with their jobs.Organizes and supports internal agency events such as employee recognition programs and town hall style meetings.Performs related duties as assigned.How to qualifyMinimum Qualifications:Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.Substitution:Experience in public relations, public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, social media, digital engagement, advertising, marketing or similar work directly responsible for the preparation and/or dissemination of news and information in a variety of formats for internal and external communications may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.Desirable Qualifications:Excellent writing skillsSkills in video production and editing, photography, graphic design or infographics developmentExperience updating websites or carrying out social media campaignsAbility to thrive in a dynamic, diverse and fast-paced environmentExperience communicating with frontline staff who work primarily out in the fieldConversant in current transportation issuesConversant in concepts of equity, inclusion and social justicePassion for the SFMTA’s work and missionVerification:Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.Selection Process:Applications will be screened for relevant qualifying experience. Additional screening mechanisms may be used to determine candidates' qualifications.
