The Friends of the Waltham Family School (FWFS) seeks a Development Consultant to provide advice and direction to help build the organization’s fundraising and development endeavors. Work begins midsummer annually and spans into late spring. We anticipate that multiple fundraising and development activities may be ongoing at any time in the year, each with its own timeline. Work is expected to take up to 26-30 hours a week. Hourly rate of between $50-$55 depending on experience. The contract will be anticipated for one year with the potential to extend.Organization OverviewThe Friends of the Waltham Family School (FWFS), a 501(c)(3) public charity organization established in 2014, raises financial support for and increases awareness of the Waltham Family School (WFS) by engaging with community partners and advocating for educational equity. The Waltham Family School is an English language program for immigrant families that prepares children for Kindergarten and provides English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instruction to their parents. Since 2003, WFS has served over 500 English Learner families who have, in turn, embraced the community, fueled their children's successes, and forged a bright path for others.Scope of WorkThe Development Consultant, in collaboration with the FWFS Board and WFS Program Coordinator, develops and maintains the organization’s fundraising activities and donor relations. The Development Consultant is supported by the part-time Development Associate and provides regular updates to the Chair of the FWFS Development Committee.Development Activity Coordination

Develops and supports implementation of an organization-wide strategic fundraising plan.Develops annual development calendar and fundraising targets.Develops and supports rollout of the annual appeal and other fundraising campaigns.Identifies, engages, cultivates, and helps maintain relationships with major donors.Develops print and digital marketing products including the annual report.Supports Development Associate and community interns and makes periodic recommendations regarding development staffing structure to the Board.

Data Management

Manages a comprehensive development data system, including maintenance of a complete and accurate database record of donors and funding received.Establishes tracking tools and reports to the Board monthly.Meets regularly with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper.

Solicits and writes grant proposals with the guidance of the WFS Program Coordinator and the Development Committee.Acts as the primary point of contact for funding inquiries in consultation with the board.Communications

Prioritizes a sense of belonging and interdependence in all actions and communications, centering the strengths and dignity of WFS families.Facilitates Waltham Family School website updates and social media posting.Meets in person with the WFS Program Coordinator at least twice a month.Participates in FWFS Board committee meetings.Develops and maintains relationships with community partners (including attending selected community and leadership events).

Desired Skills and ExpertiseExcellent personal, verbal, public speaking, and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with individuals of varied cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.Solid organizational, time management, and project management skills.Experience in grant research and writing.Experience with leading a team and in working independently.Experience with using data to inform decision-making.Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Experience with DonorPerfect, Constant Contact, GiveSmart, Wix, or similar software programs.Application RequirementsYour experience with organizations similar to the Waltham Family School.Your understanding of the Waltham Family School mission, vision, and values.Your approach to development work.Examples of past experience in nonprofit development/fundraising including work with development software and financial reporting.A resume/CV with at least two references.
