JOB SUMMARYOur Finance Department tracks the accounting for apartment building operations (with separate legal entities and investor ownership), commercial tenants, construction and/or renovation of buildings, social service grants, payee services, fundraising, and operations of the overall Plymouth organization. The Payroll Manager will oversee all our payroll functions. The primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate and timely payment of payroll expenses and taxes, as well as accurate labor allocations. Supervising our dedicated payroll team and collaborating with various departments.This is a regular, benefited, full-time position.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Develop systems to process payroll account transactions (eg. salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third-party payments).Responsible for Finance staff training, development, and mentoring. This includes on-boarding new staff, as well as regular on-going training for seasoned staff.Oversee processing of payroll changes (eg. new hires, terminations, raises, payroll allocations (distribution codes) and system upgrades).Oversee the payroll functions performed by the staff accountant and the senior accountant; ensure effective and timely communication and a strong working relationship with staff, ADP, and Human Resources.Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of work performed in assigned areas of responsibility. This includes:Performing periodic reviews of financial data.Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and payroll tax obligations.Maintaining accurate records.Oversight of reconciliations and investigation of variances.Maintaining current operating procedures, including appropriate internal controls.Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and the Finance teams.Assist with annual audits and tax returns, including reconciliations, adjustments, closing entries, and schedule preparation.Coordinate financial functions to assure that staff members have information needed to carry out organizational priorities and activities.Assist the Controller in monitoring and reviewing work assignments and group projects.Cross train with other Finance department staff as assigned.Other accounting, financial management, financial analysis, and administrative tasks as assigned.Serve as backup to the Controller and other Finance department positions as needed.ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws.Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes.Experience accounting for intercompany transactions, complex labor allocations, multiple entities, and funds.Five+ years of accounting experience with progressively more responsible fiscal, administrative, and leadership duties.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a desire to work in an environment requiring teamwork, effective conflict resolution, and respect for others.Ability to work well with diverse populations.Commitment to ensuring the financial integrity of the accounting information, and ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.Ability to identify, solve problems and recommend proposals for increased efficiency of operations.Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage deadlines; manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards for accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality.Proficient and experienced with ADP, accounting software systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively with customized databases and technology, and conduct internet research, as needed.Effective interpersonal communication skills to coordinate the flow of information to and from staff and management who possess varying degrees of financial expertise.Ability to quickly perform routine tasks with consistent accuracy and attention to detail.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant.Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting software.Experience with ADP software.Knowledge of low-income housing development and operations.Experience with public funding and nonprofit accounting requirements.For a full list of our benefits, please go to
