DescriptionRole SummaryThe Senior PCB Designer will create very complex engineering drawings, details and assemblies, and standard plans. The main responsibility is PCB layout for the designs created by the rest of the hardware engineering team for non-recurring engineering (NRE) and new product development (NPD) projects. The projects will range from respins of existing boards to complete new product development with board designs typically between 8 to 14 layers. The ideal candidate will be an expert in layout that can advise the hardware engineering team on best practices, and continually push for smaller designs.We make a differenceMany of our products are for customers in regulated industries like medical device and aerospace. This means that quality is a top priority in everything we do.Supervisor ResponsibilitiesThis role has no direct supervisory responsibilities.Essential ResponsibilitiesDesign layout of printed circuit boards that comply with mechanical, EMC, and electrical form, fit, and functional requirements.Interface with mechanical and electrical engineering groups to establish physical and electrical parameters to meet packaging requirements.Generate and check all fab drawings, assembly drawings and output files for the complete fabrication of printed circuit boards including ODB++, Gerber files, IPC netlist, drill files, etc.Interface with board houses to resolve technical issues, submit designs and obtain fab quotes.Resolve technical issues related to PCB designs and assist design groups with solutions.Maintain and define library symbols footprints per electrical engineering guidelines.Research and implement new techniques and technologies to grow the departmental PCB design skillset, stay current on industry PCB design practices, and research PCB houses.Mentor junior PCB designers.Report status of work as required by supervisor or program manager.Assist in estimation and quoting for business development.Technical and/or design team lead in PCB Design and Layout to provide technical guidance, schedule support, to ensure project success.Essential Responsibilities of all Beacon EmbeddedWorks employeesSupport and demonstrate our core values.Interact positively and professionally with all employees, customers, and vendors.Maintain reliable attendance.Perform work safely and adhere to all safety requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsAssociate’s degree in engineering, design/drafting, CAD technology or equivalent.10+ experience with schematic capture and layout software tools including Cadence OrCad.Experience with PCB design process, PCB Fabrication, assembly and design for manufacturability and test.Understanding of IPC standards for library parts, printed circuit design and manufacturing.Proficiency designing multilayer boards with high density interconnects, fine pitch parts, microvias, analog/digital circuitry and rigid flex.Expertise in part placement concepts and routing techniques for signal integrity and requirements.Knowledge of high-speed signal routing and controlled impedance routing techniques.Experience with impedance control and transmission line theory.Experience with analog design layout techniques.Experience with RF design layout techniques.Experience working with printed board fabrication houses and manufacturing guidelines.Well versed in the use of office software programs, such as Excel, Outlook, etc.Excellent verbal and written communications skills.Excellent attention to detail.Experience with quality management systems.Ability to work autonomously to develop solutions.Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.Able to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities to ensure superior customer satisfaction.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree.Experience with additional schematic capture and layout software tools including Allegro, PCB Editor, and Altium preferred.Experience routing high-speed signals including DDR4, LPDDR4, MIPI DSI, MIPI CSI, PCIe, Ethernet, USB signals.Experience using constraints within the layout software tools.Experience with Subversion for revision control.Successful track record for NPD and product launches.Experience working with external and remote development teams.Experience with regulated markets (e.g., medical, aerospace…).Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook) desired.Other considerationsPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds.Work EnvironmentThis position will be based out of our Eden Prairie, MN location, but partial remote work will be considered.The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, that of an office environment. However, on some instances this job may require work in areas where eye protection is necessary.Travel may be required, very infrequently.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time, on-site position.Typical day and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, but does allow for some flexibility.It may be necessary to work more than 40 hours per week at times to produce the required results.Beacon EmbeddedWorks is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer
