Structural Welding Engineer - Remote

This position will be 100 % remote.

This position will require travel to supplier sites as well potential travel to Grand Prairie, TX to support production welding activities.

There is possibility that there be less than 40 hour/week work but there may be times when overtime is required. This position could be considered on-demand with the expectation that when a request is made, every effort will be made to respond quickly.

*** is seeking an experienced welding engineer to support production and development activities. In this exciting role, the engineer will have the opportunity to work closely with the engineering, manufacturing, and global supply chain organizations to develop welding designs and support of production activities related to these designs.

Job Description

Review engineering designs for welding requirements and provide feedback to design.

Support internal and external investigations for welding-related issues to increase productivity.

Review welding processes, documentation, and procedures and provide feedback.

Support on site audits at suppliers to control weld quality on hardware as needed.

Will represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.

Support design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis.

Work closely with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs for manufacturing.

Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.

Prepare statements of work (SOW) and coordinates with external vendors, such as weld integrators, to establish new capabilities or expand capacity.

Review Design drawings and associated technical documentation for correct weld symbol and welding process, Work Instructions/procedures, and Code application requirements.

Support on-site process development and improvement initiatives to resolve complex fabrication issues

REQUIRED Experience/Skills:

B.S. degree or higher in welding engineering, welding engineering technology, or related field.

10 years' experience with hands on fabrication and manufacturing of welded assemblies

Demonstrate experience working with structured welding codes.

Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.

Experience writing test plans, test procedures, and inspection criteria.

Fundamental understanding of welding processes including, but not limited to, resistance, electron beam, laser beam, plasma arc, resistance, friction stir, GTAW, and GMAW

Experience with Tooling design experience for welded assemblies to reduce weldment distortion and improve producibility.

Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

Experience working with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, nickel alloys and high strength steels.

Be willing to travel as required to support domestic suppliers

Desired skills:

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Master's degree in Welding Engineering

Experience with the following processes: GTAW, GMAW, LBW, EBW Fundamental knowledge of welding processes across a variety of material systems.

Experience with root Cause Analysis and corrective actions including, but not limited to, optical and SEM fractography/ metallography, hardness, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing

Certifications in Lean Six Sigma

Experience with AWS D17.1, D1.2, D1.1
