Lead S.T.A.R.S. Counselor

The Village of Brookfield Parks and Recreation Department is searching for a Lead S.T.A.R.S. Counselor. As a Lead Counselor, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day planning, organizing, and implementing of S.T.A.R.S. You will work with your supervisor to deliver camp activities, maintain and prepare supplies, and manage staff for S.T.A.R.S locations.PAY & HOURSThe starting hourly rate is $16.00+ DOQWork Dates: January 2024 – June 5, 2024 (This position follows the school calendar year which ends on June 5, 2024 and will begin again on August 15, 2024).STARS program hours: 6:30am - 9:30am and 2:15pm - 6:30pm, Monday - Friday. Work hours vary on average 20 hours per week. Additional hours may be required.RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIESGain knowledge and understanding of Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.Ensure counselors plan, organize, and conduct a variety of “positive” program activities for the areas of sports/games, arts-n-crafts, drama, music, dance, team building and special events.Supervise program plans and facility schedules.Assist Counselors in planning and execution of plans.Run errands and gather supplies for the S.T.A.R.S program.Assist in assessing what supplies need to be purchased at site locations.Fill in at site locations as needed.Interact with the children in both one-on-one and group activities.Assist in record keeping by taking attendance, collecting permission slips, utilizing each child's emergency information on ePACT, and filling out accident/incident reports as needed.Keep records of snack delivery at each location from GCFD.Ensure that counselors keep the facility, supplies, and equipment clean and safe by reporting breakage and safety problems. Assist in cleaning up and straightening room before, during and after each session.Report breakage and safety problems to Recreation Supervisor.Attend staff training as it pertains to policies and procedures, safety, or other subjects as appropriate.Observe and follow all Village of Brookfield safety policies and regulations. The safety of the staff and patrons is a continuing responsibility of all staff members.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMust be at least 18 years of age or older.Having prior experience working with children and/or interest in education or recreation as a career goal is preferred.Ability to interact with children and teach them in a fun, interactive way.Must be personable and comfortable speaking to children, parents, staff, and public of all ages and backgrounds.Possess good problem-solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.Possess enthusiasm, drive, and a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.Be able to work in a team environment promoting positive and effective working relationships with staff and the public.Able to be flexible and adapt to new situations.Able to accept constructive criticism and/or supervision.Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Must have excellent customer service skills.Must be able to follow directions and perform responsibilities as described.Possess time management and organizational skills to effectively perform responsibilities of the job.Represent the Village of Brookfield’s Parks and Recreation Department in a professional manner.Have good safety awareness and use good judgement in all aspects of this position.Must have transportation and be able to travel to the STARS facilities (Rec Hall, Lincoln, Costello, Edison, JW Robinson, Home).HIRING PROCESSTo complete the employment application, please visit Lead S.T.A.R.S.
