Controller Position

Gonzaga College High School invites applicants for a Controller position. Located in Washington, DC, and founded in 1821, Gonzaga is a Jesuit Catholic college preparatory school for young men in grades 9-12. We offer a values-oriented and academically challenging curriculum to students of diverse backgrounds from all over the Washington area.

The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with other senior leaders of the Business Office team, including the Chief Operations Officer, the Revenue Streams Manager, the AR/Payroll Assistant, the Business Office Manager, the Senior Staff Accountant, and an Accounting Specialist consultant. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data and compliance with GAAP.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Manage and oversee all accounting functions (AP, AR, fixed assets, general ledger, payroll, cash management, credit card management, and project/program accounting including endowment funds, capital expenditures, and booster activities).

Maintain and/or reconcile accounting sub-ledger systems.

Prepare monthly financial statements using information from the general ledger and other sources.

Assist COO and CFO on all tracking of capital budgets and replacement reserves.

Collaborate with CFO on oversight of business office staff workload distribution and fulfillment.

Prepare and maintain the budget, financial forecasts, and long-term plan under the direction of the CFO.

Reconcile and report endowment and capital campaign balances and ensure compliance with donor restrictions.

Ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP and other relevant financial regulations and standards.

Manage the annual audit process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

Collaborate with the CFO and other senior leaders on financial strategies and initiatives to support the school's mission.

Assist the CFO, Finance Committee, Endowment Committee, and Audit Committee with all reporting, preparation for Committee meetings, and special projects.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA certification preferred.

7+ years of extensive experience with GAAP and financial reporting standards; experience in an educational setting is a plus.

Proficiency with fully integrated financial software packages; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge is highly desirable.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Advanced proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel and Word), Google Workspace (Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets), and other relevant work platforms.

Experience working in a school setting or familiarity with Jesuit Catholic education is a plus.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively within a team and with other departments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

As a point of reference, the 25th percentile for this position in DC according to that data is $128,100 and the 75th percentile is $157,100. Actual salary will depend on experience, skills, and qualifications of candidates.
