Job description Job Description Oracle’s Hardware Development Organization seeks to add an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to work within its Server Development team in Santa Clara, California. As a member of this design team, you will have the opportunity to lead the mechanical architecture of the next state of the art server generations for various Oracle programs, including cloud applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, integrating, and delivering server designs from concept to volume production. You will also actively participate in a number of development efforts such as thermal development, system design feasibility, test and verification process, and transition to manufacturing environment for volume production. You will ensure the server design can be integrated into data center rack level, and can function optimally within this environment. Career Level – IC4
Responsibilities
Detailed mechanical design of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration
Conduct mechanical design activities from concept to product creation
Proficient in working with CAD design tools such as Pro-E, SolidWorks, etc.
Perform extensive Tolerance studies/stack ups (i.e., root sum square, worst case, etc.)
Determine and validate mechanical design requirements for components and their functions within system environment
Manage and guide detailed design development activities and associated schedules
Participate in formal cross-functional design reviews
Active participation in thermal design activities and potential engineering design/modeling work
Drive design optimizations and collaborate with all stakeholders on design for manufacturing enhancements
Create design Bill of Materials (BOM) and ultimately release the design into manufacturing and volume production
Oversee the build and validation of engineering prototypes
Perform root cause and corrective action analysis as required
Support Operation Engineering and External Manufacturers (EMs) with manufacturing activities
Communicate clearly and provide directions to less senior staff members and serve as a role model/mentor
You must work closely with Electrical Design and Hardware Validations teams as well as System Engineers/Architects to ensure system’s design intent requirements are achieved. You will also collaborate closely with Test Engineering, Value Engineering, and Industrial Design groups to integrate cross-functional feedback into the system’s design intent. In addition, you will work closely with internal Operation/Manufacturing Engineering groups and External Manufacturers to meet design for manufacturability process, transfer to volume production, and meet overall product’s cost intent. You must have prior experience and a proven track record to demonstrate successful delivery of mechanical engineering responsibilities for on-time delivery of complex enterprise class products to market.
Engineering Requirements:
The candidate at minimum must have a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of direct hands-on experience in a related high-tech industry with the following specific requirements:
Extensive engineering design and rich industrial working experience with sheet metal, plastic, and die casting parts and their associated manufacturing engineering processes
Proficient in working with mechanical design tools such as Pro Engineering/Creo, SolidWorks, etc. Familiarity with various thermal and structural analyses such as FloTherm, Icepak, ANSYS, etc., is a plus
Experience with the design of components, integration, and test of electro-mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies
Experience with mechanical validation tests process that may include, Environmental Test Engineering (ETE), Vibration and thermal testing & characterization. Familiarity with Electromagnetic Compliance (EMI/EMC) is a plus
Prior working experience with system integration into data center rack level and meeting environmental requirements
