The NCF is focused on the development and implementation of best practices and technological advancements for current and emerging technology areas related to cybersecurity. The Advancing Technologies Department is focused on emerging technology areas and the cybersecurity opportunities and risks associated with them. This department also focuses on how these technologies can mature and how they can be integrated to provide enhanced capabilities.Roles and Responsibilities:This engineering role will shape MITRE’s work across the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Capacity Building (CCB) capabilities and initiatives. The selected candidate will work closely with our sponsor to shape and define work across different cybersecurity workstreams, such as Hardware/Software asset management, cloud security, Zero Trust, Identity and Access Management, Security Log Management, Threat Emulation, Security Incident Detection and Analysis. Specific responsibilities will include:Support for one or multiple workstreams to evaluate technologies, understanding product functionality, capabilities, and limitationsResearch on product capabilities and develop a technical report based on the research results and analysisHands-on coding, debugging, implementation, and integration of different products in a lab environmentCreating deliverables relating to proof-of-concepts, prototypes, technical analysis, product evaluation and integration testing activities using agile workflow processDevelopment of cybersecurity functions and services in on-premises and cloud environmentsSponsor engagement to establish and understand mission requirements and shape work to achieve those goals.Leading and mentoring junior engineers in a workstream or across workstreams within a taskStrategic Leadership:
Collaborate with MITRE Labs and other MITRE teams to support the implementation of the CISA CB mission objectives.Domain / Technical competence:
Demonstrate strong familiarity and skill in one or more of the following areas: System Engineering, Architecture, Applied Cybersecurity, Cyber Analytics, Cyber Architecture and Resilience, Cyber Threat Intelligence. Hands-on proficiency in one of the cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and Google).Interpersonal Skills:
Lead and work with a team of engineers and sponsors to identify operational and cybersecurity engineering challenges, potential solutions, and communicate challenges and impacts clearly and effectively.Collaboration:
Engage and collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, and sponsor stakeholders. May have to leverage a pipeline of MITRE technical expertise.Senior Sponsor Experience:
Comfortably and respectfully engage with sponsor leadership and MITRE managers.Flexibility:
Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time.Basic Qualifications:Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years of a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Experience implementing and managing cybersecurity tools and services in a multi-cloud lab environmentStrong written and oral communication skills and ability to translate technical lab work into impactful outcomesExperience analyzing telemetry from cybersecurity tools and aligning it with mission objectives and requirementsExperience leading and managing a team of engineersExperience collaborating and interacting with sponsors to derive tasking from goals and requirementsExpertise in the following areas:
Agile framework, where rapid delivery of work products is expectedSecurity Operations Center (SOC)Hands-on proficiency in AWS, Azure, and Google cloud environmentsAdversary emulation and deep understanding of adversarial behaviors and techniques
