The Senior Infrastructure Engineer plays a pivotal role in the planning, design, coordination, and management of IT infrastructure delivery for network connectivity services expansions, repairs, and installations. Their expertise ensures that IT infrastructure meets both current and future network needs across the UCSF community, aligning with academic, medical, and research missions. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer collaborates closely with UCSF departments, vendors, internal IT teams, technicians, and analysts to deliver building network connectivity needs and installation assignments for copper, optical, and DAS services. Additionally, the Senior Engineer drives the delivery and maintenance of network installations, including services, repairs, and upgrades of both inside-plant and outside-plant communication distribution systems. Duties of the role encompass customer relations, cabling repair and installation, documentation, and troubleshooting and remediation of infrastructure data equipment and services.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $225,900 (Annual Rate).Department Description

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.5 -7 years' Experience working in one or more of the following fields: communication infrastructure, information technology or network operations.Proficiency in L2 protocols including STP, DHCP, 802.1X, LACP, MLAG, VXLAN bridging, etc. along with addressing mechanisms (DNS, DHCP, IPAM, or similar), and practical experience with L1 technologies (SMF, MMF, DWDM, Transceivers, AOC, Twinax, Fiber fan-outs, or similar). Strong understanding of various network hardware platforms such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Brocade, and Juniper.Demonstrated ability with Word, Excel, Visio, MS Project, E-builder Copper/Fiber, AutoCAD and other relevant software and network testing tools. Proficiency in reading, reviewing, and analyzing network construction drawings, and authoring standard project-specific documents, business and scope requirements, and project proposal requests.Extensive experience delivering reliable and quality communication infrastructure services. Proven experience supporting large-scale network implementations and upgrades, ensuring the delivery of reliable and quality network services.Extensive experience delivering solutions based on data communication industry standards such as ANSI, ITA, EIA, and BICSI. Significant experience complying with state, local, NEC, and NFPA codes and standards.Extensive experience with the installation and maintenance of conduits, fiber-optic cables, and copper cables. Significant experience with designing and deploying large enterprise cabling infrastructure, and designing outside plant conduit and cable infrastructure systems.Significant experience designing the layout of horizontal cable pathways, telecom rooms, and backbone infrastructure. Experience conducting budget and pricing activities for infrastructure cabling systems.Possession of a valid California driver's license.Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders.Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers.Advanced organizational skills and ability to balance competing priorities and deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholder types.
