FindLaw has grown significantly since its establishment in 1995, now employing more than 1,000 talented people with global operations in the United States, India and the United Kingdom.Super Lawyers, within FindLaw, is an attorney rating system that is known for its proprietary third-party and peer rating system that identifies about 5% of practicing US lawyers as the top in their practice areas, and generates magazines and web sites targeted to specific markets.We are looking for a writer to develop, optimize and refine content in the areas of consumer-facing website content on superlawyers.com. This is a full-time contract position at 40 hours/week during the length of the term.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Write a variety of original legal information content of interest to consumers, under the direction and oversight of the Director of Editorial and Super Lawyers Editorial Team, including, but not limited to:Researching and accurately summarizing statutes and related legal content within a variety of legal practice areas;Contacting Super Lawyers selected practicing attorneys to contribute practical information and quotes concerning issues of law and incorporating those insights into the consumer content/articles;Correcting content for style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. (85%)Work with team lead, editors and/or director of editorial to develop a schedule of content creation/publication, and constantly refine and improve content creation style. (10%)Work with Super Lawyers partners to optimize content using best practices in tagging, keyword usage, headline creation, content optimization and basic SEO. (5%)REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's Degree requiredJD requiredProfessional legal practice experience a plus, but not requiredUndergraduate degree or additional coursework in business, marketing, communications, writing or a related field a plus, but not requiredDemonstrated expertise and/or practice experience in one or more defined legal practice areas requiredExcellent writing skills, with ability to write in a conversational tone and demonstrated ability to successfully write for the web, including experience writing for lay audiencesBasic understanding of HTML and SEOAbility to work independently under deadline and self-motivateExcellent time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments from multiple editorsIDEAL CANDIDATE:Thrives in a 'start up' working environment, but is keenly aware of the special responsibilities that come with writing for a major multi-national information companyHas an interest in writing about legal topics for consumer audiencesIs comfortable working under an editorial team lead and recognizes the importance of constructive criticismWorks well in a team environment, embraces change and is highly adaptable** To apply, send resume, cover letter and writing sample to the email above.
