San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 780,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk.Our Anti-BIAS (Anti-Bullying, Intervention and Advocacy Supports) services provide assessment and therapeutic support for youth who are bullied in 7th-12th grade in the Santee School District, Cajon Valley Union School District, Grossmont Union High School District and Helix High School.CONTEXT OF THE POSITION

Accountable to the Program Manager to provide culturally competent, trauma-informed support for bullying victims, their families, and schools as part of the Anti-Bullying Intervention & Advocacy Supports (Anti-BIAS) component of the Helping, Engaging, Reconnecting and Educating (HERE) Now program. Advocacy Specialists are responsible for providing case management, counseling, advocacy, referrals, and service coordination for victims of bullying.Essential functions include:

Provide culturally competent, trauma-informed support for bullying victims, their families, and schools.Conduct one-on-one safety assessments and crisis management to at-risk students and their families.Provide individual and family therapy to youth who have been identified as a victim of bullying.Act as an advocate on behalf of youth with administrators and law enforcement, as needed.Provide one-on-one case management services to youth identified during initial safety assessment as being a victim of bullying.Connect youth to available supports including mental health services and CalVCB.Offer support to schools, educators and community collaborators to assist bullying victims.Coordinate events, materials and resources for Bullying Prevention Awareness Month.PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in counseling (MFT), social work (MSW), or psychology.Must be license-eligible and registered with the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology.Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.Minimum of one year of job-related experience with at-risk families and children.Experience with child, family, and community development.Must possess excellent oral and written skills.Must have a reliable vehicle and relevant auto insurance.SDYS EXPECTATIONS
