We are looking for a diverse staff that reflects the community we serve. The Homicide Bureau is composed of some of the most seasoned and experienced prosecutors working in one of the busiest offices in the country. While the Bronx accounts for 16% of the population of the City of New York, it saw 31% of the Homicides in 2021. With the increase in violence and homicides in the Bronx, we are currently seeking an experienced trial attorney to join the Homicide Bureau as Homicide Counsel. Prosecutors with a minimum of ten years experience and seven Homicide trials as first chair will be considered. Reporting to the Chief of Homicide, with latitude for independent judgment, Homicide Counsel handle high-profile, challenging, complex, and sensitive cases from investigation through trial as well as serve as a mentor to junior ADAs in the bureau.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prosecute homicides from investigation through trialServe rotations of 24-hour on-call dutyRespond to crime scenesConduct witness and/or defendant interviewsDraft search warrants, trap and traces, and cell site ordersPresent homicide cases to the grand juryEstablish and maintain relationships with witnesses and surviving familiesMentor less experienced ADAs in the bureauHandle high-profile cases with media attentionHandle cases with challenging witnesses and/or challenging defendantsHandle a high-volume caseload efficiently and effectivelyAll other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree requiredMinimum of ten years of criminal trial experienceMinimum of seven homicide trialsMember in good standing of the NY State Bar, evidenced by provision of an original current certificate of good standingAbility to exercise good judgment and strong ethicsExcellent written and interpersonal communication skillsExhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of informationAbility to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusionAbility to excel in a fast-paced work environment and handle a high volume of casesAbility to work nights, holidays and weekends as neededResidency Requirement
