Job Description - Counselor ES - SY 2024-25 (24004100)REPORTS TO:DEPARTMENT NAME:JOB SUMMARY:

Counsel individuals and provide group educational and vocational guidance services.PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Other duties may be added or deleted and this description may be amended at any time.Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations.Provide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur at schools.Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children's progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other problems, and to determine priorities for students and their resource needs.Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals.Counsel students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration, school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and career planning.Provide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and classes that teach students to handle conflicts without resorting to violence.Conduct follow-up interviews with counselees to determine if their needs have been met.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school or GED required; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Valid Tennessee Driver’s License required, CDL endorsement preferred.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of five years directly applicable experience supervising a work team.AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing and walking: generally 8 hours per day (fully functioning); Lifting and carrying: frequently lifting 40 lbs and occasionally lifting 70 lbs; Push and pull: unlimited grasp and fingering; Dexterity: ability to operate machines, tools or office equipment; Additional requirements: unlimited reaching to shoulder height; frequently climbs stairs; exposure to heat extremes.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS:

The position is exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, moving mechanical parts, disease/pathogens, and traffic.SENSORY (ADA) REQUIREMENTS:
