Overview

TDS, a national technology and communications company, has a great opportunity for a Lead Tax Accountant. This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule including two onsite days/week in our Madison, WI Corporate office. Fully remote work may also be considered for candidates living outside the greater Madison, WI area.

The Lead Tax Accountant contributes at a high level to TDS objectives and projects with a focus on oversight of the tax fixed asset functions, including tax depreciation, amortization, and gains/losses. This also includes key roles with federal and state income tax filings, tax research and development of planning ideas, M&A transactions, and income tax accounting entries and adherence to ASC 740 as needed.

Responsibilities

As the Lead Tax Accountant you will:
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise on significant tax-related objectives and projects
  • Coordinate and oversee the tax fixed asset function, including intangible assets. Mentor other fixed asset team members and be proactive and accepting of change for the success of the team, department, business units and enterprise
  • Assist with federal and state income tax compliance including coordinating and planning subprocesses within the tax return preparation project
  • Establish and execute on tax compliance project timelines
  • Assist in completion of accounting for income taxes pursuant to ASC 740 on an as-needed basis
  • Assist in identifying and developing federal and state income tax savings strategies, including evaluating the risks and rewards associated with such strategies
  • Assist with tax technical research using online tools, and identifying appropriate federal and state tax technical guidance, and develop documentation to support conclusions
  • Identify appropriate business process improvement opportunities


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) or 4+ years professional work experience
  • 5+ years' experience in either public accounting or corporate income tax experience including:
    • Preparing and reviewing federal and state income tax returns
    • Research and analysis of federal and state tax laws
  • 2+ years of process leadership
  • Ability to occasionally travel as business needs dictate

Other Qualifications:
  • CPA or eligibility to sit for the CPA within the first six months of employment
  • Knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules, and Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements
  • Strong leadership abilities, thinking ahead of needs to help drive the best business decisions
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast moving organization, satisfying needs of diverse constituents, under the pressure of competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to communicate and interact persuasively at all levels clearly and effectively in a range of methods (written, verbal and formal presentations)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and SAP
  • Ability to help foster a constructive development environment regarding training, recruitment, team building and change
  • Strong personal and professional ethical values, impeccable integrity and the energy level and stamina required to meet the demands of the position
  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry preferred

This position has an annualized rate of pay that may range from $95,220 - $114,100 / year based on a number of factors which may include position level, internal equity and market location, and may also vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Associates are also eligible for a potential annual performance award (bonus), based on annual individual and company performance.
