Reporting to the Director of Data and Digital Services the Database Applications Administrator (DBAA) is responsible for the installation, management, support and maintenance of the firms SQL Server database environment. This role is responsible for ensuring critical and sensitive business data is maintained and available based on firm requirements and best practices. The DBAA is also responsible for providing SQL and data analytics support to application support staff and other firm personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server and Reporting services on server hardware using documented standards
  • Creation, configuration and/or restoration of user databases
  • Performing database data imports and exports
  • Creation of scripts or stored procedures to automate repetitive or complex tasks
  • Creation, management and monitoring of database backup jobs
  • Test backup and restoration processes routinely to ensure Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity objectives for the firm are met
  • Maintaining database and log file size for optimal disk capacity
  • Recommends and implements security measures to ensure confidential data stored in databases and SQL-based applications is secured
  • Creation of reports utilizing MS Reporting Services for regular reporting needs
  • Creation of SQL Server objects such as Stored Procedures, Views and Linked Servers
  • Identify and escalate technical issues; take corrective actions to ensure long term resolution
  • Stay current on technology trends and make recommendations for upgrade paths or improvements of existing technology
  • Aid in the optimization of SQL server and/or queries to resolve performance issues
  • Work with internal development staff on the design and creation of new databases
  • Provide support and/or work with firm personnel or vendors who need or require access to databases
  • Maintains positive contact with firm personnel and clients.
  • Observes confidentiality in all firm and client matters.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum five years supporting and maintaining MS SQL Environment
  • Be a contributing member in a team-oriented environment
  • Expert understanding of MS Transact-SQL
  • Solid understanding and background of various SQL Server versions
  • Enterprise Manager and SQL Management Studio
  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Knowledge of legal environment and applications, preferred
  • Experience with database hardening, preferred
